All the commercialism that goes with it

All those poor turkeys being killed for the sake of one day.

The bags full of present that kids receive / expect , and parents feeling obliged to provide.

People pretending to be nice to each other until things get back to normal.

But most of all, the big pack of lies that has been going on for the last 2024 years.

I had a "Why did this have to happen at Christmas ffs!" incident today. I put my bathroom's hot tap on to find it was running cold. I checked my boiler to see the little digital display saying 're-ignite boiler'. I had no idea how to do this, so I phoned the out of hours, housing association's emergency number asking them to come out to look at it. The engineer arrived after 2 hours to see what the problem was. I was even going to post a thread on CC asking for thoughts about what it could be and how I could fix it, but when the housing association said it was an emergency, so they'd send an engineer out I thought I'd let the professionals deal with it. Anyway, on looking at it he asked where my gas meter was. He stuck his head in the cupboard under my kitchen sink and said straight away "Ive found the problem"! It seems when I'd put my slow cooker back where I keep it, I'd knocked the gas tap turning the supply off!! Yes, It was something simple after all that, but why didn't the meter's digital display tell me to check the gas supply!!🧐

I sent a text message to my sister yesterday morning wishing them a happy Christmas. Still no response.

Until I learnt sense, I used to send cards to my niece and nephew every Christmas and birthday and put money in them, and most times I never got any kind of acknowledgement.

I haven't heard from my brother since the 7th of August. We've gone for 5 months without contact, so it's nothing new. Every time It's me who has to message him, asking how he is. He never contacts me, it's always me contacting him and when I do he never asks how I'm doing, I'd like to contact him. but why the hell is it always me who has to do the "How are you?" stuff. I thought he might've contacted me on Christmas Day, but no, nothing at all He knows I live on my own with quite a few health and mobility problems, but I don't think he's interested.

It's the commercialism that's killed Christmas, an outdated Victorian custom, even then they promoted this whole idea of over commercialisation, it's very outmoded.
But a perfect fit for modern social media, with a 'woke' driven agenda for the Faceache generation.
If you want to be kind to people , why not all year round and not for a Bacchanalian period of a few days..
Give for giving sake, not in anticipation of more gains!
