I happened to click on a XC70 on facebook, now I get loads coming up, some of them look OK for the asking price, but the common theme is high mileage.

That's a good thing with XC/V70s in many cases - if the owner has maintained properly. A say 70-80K miles garage queen's going to need a bunch of work pretty soon if there aren't bills for new front lower arms, ATF change and so on

Zarking fardwark, Adrain Fux are taking the pith. £398 for a classic policy on limited miles!

I got the same cover with Carole Nash, on a regular car policy, same declared value, with zero NCB (its all tied up in my Peugeot), same excesses, commuting allowed (not that I have a job to commute to) etc, for £215. Guess where my money is going?

After eight years without a car I’ve treated myself to a V90.

I ought to mention that seven days after getting it I was rear-ended by a lorry while in a stationary queue of traffic at the Black Cat roundabout. Fortunately, he was only doing about 5mph when he hit me.

A couple small circular dents in my rear bumper from the screws on his front numberplate and a cracked rear tailgate, which is composite fibre and will have to be replaced. Total estimated repair bill is £2000.

I had two witnesses but apparently they’re no use as being passengers in my car are not classed as independent.

Car is going in for repair on 20th June. At least it’s drivable in the mean time.

Deep joy.

Many moons ago my Stepmum was driving her 960, the model that morphed into the original V90, when she was rear ended by an Iveco 7.5 tonner.

The badly damaged car was deemed repairable, while the truck was written off.

The Volvo did its job today, with distinction. My wife was taking the kids to school, car coming the other way saw queuing traffic at the last minute, braked and swerved right, hitting the car in front then crossing into my wife’s path for a ~60mph combined speed head-on impact. The Volvo did everything right - emergency braked, deployed selected airbags, set the hazard warning lights and called the emergency services. Wife and kids shaken but not a mark on any of them. The other driver was OK too. However his car came off second best.
