Good morning. This week has been a bit odd, I don't seem to have settled. Anyway here I am. Awake!! Recently this is very unusual. I started taking magnesium before Christmas to aid sleep. It seems to work as I regularly get 6/7 hours unbroken kip these days......other than unscheduled pee stops in the middle of the night.

All is good. Today's plan is to replace five fence panels. The forecast is winds of 28mph, gusting to 50. I may reschedule and concentrate on putting shelving in my new shed.

I think I'm awake as I saw my FA yesterday. The household income will reduce significantly sometime in the future. I needed her reassurance that I'll be financially stable. I will be. To my surprise she suggested one consideration would be annuity.

Ye gods, browsing bikes and this came up at £12500 to £16350:

Would anyone in this thread pay that?

I wouldn't, even if I was a heaps better* cyclist than I am now.

*Not difficult.
That seat post is horrible. Pure aesthetics rules that one out!! The money? No, definitely not. I couldn't justify it.

I'm looking seriously at a new summer bike. My budget is £6k. I feel this is justifiable. My Cervelo, the new one will replace her, was £3k eight years ago. That's £375pa. Over eight years £6k is £750pa. I'll be 79 then, this may be the last manual bike I buy.

This year Mrs P's gym membership is £1400pa (£115/month). That sounds a lot but broken down over her activities it isn't. Included are all classes, gym, swimming, sauna, steam, squash and crucially tennis. The local indoor LA tennis courts are £20/hour. Mrs P usually plays for two hours at a time. Six hours tennis in a month would be £120.

Lots of folk I know gently smile at the price I'm happy to pay. It needs to be in perspective.

Walk/run done in the pouring rain. Glad I’ve been out though as it’s to be on most of the day and to get much windier later too.

They just leave me cold, I know they’re built to do a job for successful thin 40 somethings who live in Richmond, but not my thing at all.
