Finally got to bed at 3.30pm and lord knows what time we got to sleep.

Watched YT clips of fireworks in Dubai (light show, v.good), UAE (*iss poor), Sydney (spread too thin), Hong Kong (amazing, went on forever), Singapore (ok, iffy soundtrack), Germany (meh) , Paris (stunning light show) as well as London (same old, same old, good but needs a revamp).

Mrs SD ended up somewhat wobbly last night, ie *issed.

Exercising today (again), got 3 games on the go on Lichess, will do some reading, some dossing and we have a late night planned again.

Mrs SD, in slightly philosophical mood, has just asked "why do we say 'ouch' when we hurt ourselves?" Answers?

Resolution for 2025, complete CC 50k cycling challenge.

My three investigative 'areas' for the year (I do this every year) large-scale cosmology (continuation), quantum mechanics (continuation - struggling with some of it), and new kid on the block; neuroscience with particular focus on human brain structure and function. I was thinking of Fungi as I know very little about them but they look too hideous tbh. Maybe next year.

Have a good day, year & life, everyone!
It can help the individual cope with the pain, and is also less "damaging" to the person saying it than swearing.

I meant the actual word 'ouch' not the underlying meaning of its utterance.

Sorry if I did not make that clear.
"It’s a wide-open mouth with a short breath. This is the fastest and simplest way to make a loud noise and it probably evolved as an alarm call to the tribe that danger was nearby. In case that danger is a wild animal, saying ‘Ow!’ also has the effect of baring your teeth threateningly."

Still raining here
Just started again here.

Warnings of flooding that keep mentioning the stream at the back of stream the house

It is culverted and quite a bit lower than we are - plus there are several lower parts of the estate that would direct the water away from us
But I wanted a walk anyway so I went via the stream to see what it is like
It is fine - lots of water in it but where it is supposed to be

anyway - did my walk
got wet

Just took the black bin out ready for tomorrow's collection. Still drizzly and miserable ( not me, the weather, I'm one of those annoyingly cheerful types ) 😁. That's tho only time that I have left the house today, apart from a couple of trips to the shed. I have been busy though, tree and decorations taken down and stored in the loft, I measured the loft while I was up there, with a view to adding more insulation. The existing insulation was 150mm but the loft was later boarded and that squished it down to 80mm which I've read affects the efficiency of the insulation.
In other news, got my year end energy info. I used about 2,300kWh of electricity at an average overall cost of -11p per kWh, so they paid me £243.77. which will cover about half of our annual gas bill. 👍
