13 years ago my Dad died.
He would have been 101 this year.

Well I can't really give that a like.
We're you close to him?

Last night we went to see Andrea Bocelli 30: The Celebration.

I am not a classical music or opera fan and went (slightly reluctantly) with Mrs SD who was well up for it.

And...

... my god, it was sensational!

Beautifully filmed on an open-air stage one hot night in Tuscany.

Accompanied by a whole swathe of classically trained singers plus Ed Sheeran, Johnny Depp, Brian May, Shania Twain, Russell Crowe, Will Smith, and many others this was a simply stellar performance

Had me in tears 3 times (and most of the audience too) such was the power and majesty of the performance.

Sonically, the only films that have come close recently were the Elvis film (brilliant, even if, like me, you are not particularly an Elvis fan) and the soundtrack of Dune 2. Simply amazing.

Who is it for? Loved-up couples, singles remembering and listeners to any genre of music who appreciate artists at the very top of their game and performing in full flight.

If you get a chance to go, do so, it really is a once in a lifetime performance.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Us grown ups don't buy presents for each other. It's stupid to buy something that they won't like it use and it's a waste of money.

I give my 5 grandchildren money, as A. They always need it and B. I daresay whatever I buy them would not have any street cred as far as they are concerned. I must admit, I have tended to make my granddaughter thing's like a medieval leather cover for her diary. I'm thinking of making a similar cover maybe ornate for her to be able to write her poetry for her birthday.

Good day. Yesterday was grim. Woke up feeling dreadful and pretty much gave up on the day. Today I feel ridiculous well. How does that work?

Dropped Mrs P at the hospital this morning for her immunotherapy and then went to do the food shop. A normal shop, unlike the rest of Chorley. It was bedlam. Good deals in Aldi so I stocked up. Full side of salmon £10. I got two and will slice and freeze them. Potatoes 2kg for 8p (yes, eight), red cabbage 8p. That lot is heading for the freezer as well.

Then it was Christmas decoration buying. Four years ago my DIL remarked how much she liked our Christmas tree. In particular that our decorations are entirely random but all have a story and memory. We've collected or been given decorations from all over world, California, New York, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Mexico, Czech Republic and Italy on this year's tree.

This stimulated me to start a family tradition. Every year I buy each of my granddaughters a tree decoration. I hope they will build a collection which will remind them of Granddad long after I'm gone. That's a happy thing not a morbid thought.

I have noticed in one household the beautifully coordinated tree is interrupted by a couple of Granddad's offerings. 🤣

We have to do our shopping on Monday. I'm not looking forward to it as it will be heaving. We will only be buying our normal amount of food unlike some who will undoubtedly shop as if it's the end of the world.
If you'd been in Chorley today you'd know the world is ending sometime in the next 24 hours. The guy at the till next to me spent £191..........in Aldi!!!!!! 😮😮😮 That's probably their biggest sale of 2024.
