Nipped out for a little walk before the rain arrives.

I might make a start on Black Doves on Netflix.

You know I held that opinion for many, many years. I've seen other riders struggling on rides with failed electronic gearing. I was always going to be a manual guy.

Then I had the crash. Three broken fingers on right hand. Shifting is difficult on my manual Cervelo. The fingers ache and stiffen in the cold. My consultant was a cyclist, he advised I should seriously consider di2 as on longer rides my fingers would tire.

In general Di2 is a luxury option but once used people tend not to revert to manual. With your finger issue the Front Derailleur shifting is a godsend. Rear shifting on well set-up manual versus Di2 not a big difference. Learn how to recover from crash mode via YouTube and practice at home. Di2 can go into crash mode for something a simple as if your bike falls at a cafe stop. Better to practice at home than try to learn out on the road.

@avsd you're quite right. I don't have an issue on the left but front mech shifting is difficult now. The crash mode advice is good. I'll check that out.

I've always viewed it as a luxury. Plus I know several people whose bikes have been off the road for a week or more while electronic issues are sorted. With manual new cables is about the worst that can happen. However needs must this time. I've been warned to expect arthritis in the future.

Currently listening to Glasgow antiques person Natasha Raskin Sharp’s radio music show on BBC Sounds, which I stumbled on recently. I had no idea she has a radio show, I wonder how long she’s been doing it for. She seems to be playing some eclectically interesting stuff, most of which I’ve never heard of but is very listenable to.

Ah Natasha........I've fallen in love with ...........antiques.......

I digress. My mate Darragh has arrived. He's a bit early but says he has to get an eastbound train around 5.00pm Saturday. Good lad. Won't outstay his welcome. Noisy bugger though. It's going to be quite a night.

Mrs P is watching Zorro.........
