Started young, and still going.

Barnet,
2 things.
I just checked and found I have picked up the wrong carton. Mine is tomato and basil
Aldi does some nice food and some that you try once and never again.
I will see which camp this one is in.

I am shortly having curry and chips.

I like Tomato and basil soup.
Some fresh basil sprinkled onto cooked tomatoes works very well also.

Tomato soup is too 'acid' for me as I easily get reflux/indigestion.
I will give this a try.

I haven't lived in Caernarfon since 1986 so, like all major towns, it has changed a bit since then but still is a historical place to visit. My SIL says that Portmadoc is a nicer town. Bangor, on the other hand, is nowhere near as good as it used to be. There are many shops closed in the main street and the place feels soul less . I suppose it is a sign of the times, on line shopping and retail parks are killing town centres, together with lack of parking spaces too.

That's sad - I used to live in Bangor and the High Street was a decent place - full of people and shops

moved away some time ago (>10 years) but still have good memories of the place
(not so much some of the people I left to get away from!!!!)

Finally did something I have sort of meant to do for years

I sent off for my Dad's war record

He was in the RAF during the war as RAF Ground Crew
Badly injured late on (1944 I think) when a "bomb casing" fell off a bomb he was loading - got out of hospital in 1947ish

anyway - for many years he and I went to the Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford and he often commented that he had been based there for a while (D-Day and all that)
and there was something about "Used to know a girl who lived down there" when we drove past a certain road - but he always changed the subject after that!!!

anyway - I always thought he had worked on Stirlings and then converted to Halifax - but I checked and the squadrons he could have been part of of didn;t have Halifax
so I have sent off for his records so I can see more

not sure he would approve - but maybe he would

he didn;t talk much about the RAF - but then sometimes he did for a bit

I do know that one of the few things he outright refused to do when asked by my Mum was to get his war medals
apparently the last time he talked about them before she asked was when an Air Vice Marshall came to the SPinal Injuries Unit that he was in and told them all how proud they should all be about their service and how he had their medals to pin on their chests

apparently the Air Vice Marshall was not very used to THAT sort of language from a corporal
and anyway one of the doctors commented afterwards (after the AVM was ushered out rather quickly) that he thought that the medals would not fit THAT for up anyway!

Anyway - could take many months but maybe I will be able to find out a bit more

Lawnmower serviced - blades sharpened, fresh oil, new plug and air filter. All good for next year. Saved myself a good few quid by doing it myself.
I also had my Bantam up on the work bench and reset the ignition timing as it was running a bit retarded and was down on top end power.
Did a bit of clearing up in the garden after Bert.
Seem to have more leaves to pick up than last year.

One of these days my curiosity will get the better of me and I will send off for my dad’s war record too. He was in India during the final months but always refused point blank to talk about it and as far as I know never collected any medals that were presumably his due. The only bit he talked about was the journey there, several weeks on a troopship, and the journey back, several days in a Dakota.

Hello! Yes, Paul has turned up. I managed 44 chilly and windy miles today. So that's Sunday 48, Monday 44 and I'm targeting a minimum of 38 on Wednesday. When people ask how much cycling I do my response is 120 - 150 miles/week in winter 150/200 in summer.

With luck this week I'll be on target for the first time in five months.

My food on the bike was rubbish today. I need to give this serious thought. It was 35 to the Cafe, from mile 20 to the cafe I was in trouble. Head down, concentrate and tap it out.
