Bit of a disaster last night.
The cold water feed to the upstairs bath decided to fall apart ie it's just corroded. The 1st warning was water pouring through the ceiling .
We have had to switch everything off at the stop cock so there is no cold water in the house, no WC, no tea/coffee.
Sat waiting for the plumber to arrive now.

Good morning all, bright and frosty here.

Today’s  story comes from the BBC Scotland pages talking about, amongst other ships, the Gardyloo, the ship that used to take Edinburgh’s sewage out for dumping into the Forth. When the practice was banned in 1998…
Finding a new role for a ship with such a pedigree was a challenge - but it was eventually sold to a shipping company in Azerbaijan where it operates as a drinking water carrier, renamed Shollar after a mountain spring.
I hope they gave the tanks a good rinse first xx(

The Ferguson ships nobody talks about https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-67458055

Barnet,
I've got to go up to the local grocers, I'm going to do stuffed red peppers for tea tonight, also the butcher is next door and their sausages are excellent. Toad in the hole for tomorrows dinner as MissP is calling in on her way home from work.
Gives me a chance to get the bike out for a ride. :bicycle:

Things can only get better.........well in theory. 4¼ hours return trip to pick up #2 small person. We have a warning of significant snowfall from 19:00 to 10.00 Tuesday. #1 small person is due on Tuesday. She lives in east Lancashire where they do get "significant" snow.

It's been decided #1 will come tonight for a sleepover. This is a fun thing except Granddad will have a significant amount of driving this evening to avoid the significant snow ❄️

Given the alternative is to be on the M65 tomorrow where several thousand d*******s will be driving too fast this is a good solution.

How are we all? I have coffee.

What a feckin' morning. Childminding #2 small person. This means a trip to north Manchester to collect her. M61 closed thanks to multiple idiots deciding to have multiple crash. Diverted via Radcliffe. Picked up nail in tyre. Now at tyre centre. 😪

Seems like many of us are having a sh*t day.
I am waiting to find out if the ceiling has to come down as its apparent that the pipe has been leaking for a long time. Might also need new carpet to hall stairs and landing....... Will know more when everything has dried out.

Wife has a consultation early this afternoon re her last CT scan . Not really looking forward to that, she's approached all this quite pragmatically and yet, there are questions that havmt been asked but I'm respecting her desire to know or not know long term outcomes.

Head cold again, I only had one about a month ago so feeling fairly lethargic, really can't be bothered so generally having a lazy day

Just as well I'm retired, at least the days are free for whatever comes.

Just been looking at pension paperwork and I really must get myself an appointment with Pension Wise...I'm terribly lazy at stuff like this, made worse by not knowing how the landscape is going to look like long term with two children to care for. Once the Fostering payments finish in two years, it will look quite different again.

I do hope this works out well for you both. My wife has terminal cancer and, like you, I'm respecting her wishes at every stage. There are no rules for this, every couple has to do it their way. On Saturday night a friend who's a GP was urging me to do x,y,z but I just said no, it's our way not other people's.

If I might comment on the financial side. I've had a financial adviser for 20+ years. We don't have much but think we should have expert advice. My income will drop considerably when we lose Mrs P's pension. I'm not concerned as my FA has shown me how all the plans we put in place for this scenario are going to work.

I'd suggest what you need is a long-term financial projection - a cash flow forecast. I've had one for years which includes all the "what ifs." Knowing this is OK relieves one worry.

Been out for a couple of hours on the bike, boy was that cold ! First time I’ve ridden in proper white frost for years. My hands had warmed up sufficiently to brake and change gear by the time I got back but by then my feet were starting to feel the pain. I’ve just downed three mugs of tea and am starting to feel warm again !

I used to go out in this weather back when I was mad keen on cycling. I remember being in agony getting back into the warmth of the house when my hands and feet started thawing. No desire to repeat

If the temperature drops below 6 degrees, I don't ride.
