If the temperature drops below 6 degrees, I don't ride.

Used to be 12° for me.
At one time I had to cycle to work, all thro winter but for pleasure/leasure it was 12°

Seems like many of us are having a sh*t day.
I am waiting to find out if the ceiling has to come down as its apparent that the pipe has been leaking for a long time. Might also need new carpet to hall stairs and landing....... Will know more when everything has dried out.
Is this in your granny flat part or the main house? If it's in your bit can you move into the house for a while?

Barnet,
It's a dull day here and quite damp. There is drizzle in the air.
Stuffed peppers went down a treat, and I've got a pot of vegetable soup on the go. I cleaned the fridge out earlier and there were some stuff that needed to go into a soup, or be binned. Carrots, parsnip, swede, celery, sweet potatoes and a few tired green, red and yellow bell peppers. I added some herbs from the garden and a knorr stock pot.
Veg overload today.😁
The washing machine is doing it's stuff and the dishwasher is now on. I feel like a domestic goddess.

Afternoon all. It’s positively tropical here in Coventry at the moment at 6 degrees . ( and yes in answer to another thread, the heating is on 😂 ) . We have been out for a walk this morning as the forecast for this afternoon is for it to get cold and wet.
Re cycling in the cold , I have always hated it. ( You can keep the rain out but not the cold ) But as I rode to work for 35 years I have done far to much of it . For a lot of that time I was cycling home at 2 in the morning which is never fun in the winter . I think the coldest it ever got was -15 , I looked like the Michelin man cycling home that day 😂😀.
So these days once the temperatures drop to @7 degrees, cycling is off the menu. I have a sailing friend that does the same with sailing . Once the temperature drops below 9 degrees his sailing stops .
Funny enough the cold and rain doesn’t bother me the same when I am sailing as long as I can keep my feet warm . I think it a risk/reward thing as the best sailing inland is always in the winter as there are no leaves on the trees. 😀
Keep warm everyone.

No, it's in the main house.
The broken pipe has been fixed and it's just a question of letting everything dry out the assessing the damage.
If it's bad it will be an insurance job but otherwise the bank of Dad will sort it.
Ohh my car also has a puncture.
Not a good day .

No, never owned one.
We have had 2 fan heaters on for the last 17 hours.

Ours does that. Horrible job.

For some reason I can't seem to clear it. Having to find a drain expert now.

Silly little job too. The dishwasher, washing machine and kitchen sink all exit the house (bungalow) via a 1.25" pipe. This goes underground to a depth of 15" and then just 5' along to the inspection hatch/gulley thingy and then tumbles down to the cesspit etc.

The inspection hatch/gulley is usually full and I can clear it easily but today it is empty and the blockage is in that little 5' section.

But I can't get around the bend where the blockage must be. Grrrr!

Would it be better to buy a small set of rods? My neighbour has some. They worked a treat on both occasions I borrowed them.

I also find lots of boiling water and washing up liquid can be effective.

I tried boiling water and Fairy Liquid (Aldi version!) to no avaiI, might well get some rods tbh.

I now have someone coming (he is our usual plumber) this week and once he has cleared the blockage I will ask for advice on a rod set.
