When I saw the Physioabout my knee yesterday he gave me some exercises to do and suggested i do more cycling 😎

My injured knee is still very prone to swelling during day to day activity. The one thing that doesn't impact it is cycling. I can go out with a swollen knee and return with a normal one. Apparently calf muscles play an important and powerful part in returning fluids towards the heart which is a great way to clear fluid from the knee.

I mentioned this to Mrs P....................it seems this is not, sadly, a valid reason for cycling every day.

Had my right knee operated on four days short of 36 years ago. The following year I was told cycling was better than walking for getting the knee back into shape.

I remember when I first took up running more than 40 years ago being told that I would probably end up with knackered knees when I got older. The physio I saw yesterday is in his 30's, after he had given my knee the once over he remarked that " they used to tell people that long distance running would damage the knee joint, it turned out that the opposite was true "

Regular exercise of the same joints can strengthen them I was told. Some things change over time, overs are still too ingrained in people's minds, for anything else to be true.

Tommy Handley, you've never heard of him!
And you from over Liverpool way.

He died five years before I was born!!! Now I've looked him up I recognise the face and recall "It's That Man Again" but as a programme name, nothing more. I couldn't have named him.
