Hmmm. Good morning. A fairly mundane day ahead. Mrs P has her two-weekly infusion. These have moved on; initially I was there for the whole thing, now I'm told when to drop Mrs P off, given a shopping list and other errands and told to return at a specified time. I guess it's the support she feels is most useful. I didn't like it the first time but I'm going with the flow now.

When we get back I'll spend a couple of hours on the allotment before having a brief finance meeting with a u3a colleague. That should take me through to G&T time sorry 6.00pm.

Exercises next and then my friends that is that for the day. Told you it's going to be mundane!

Carpet fitters have been, a couple of young old guys who have been doing the job for over 30 years. They kept up a constant stream of banter and gentle ribbing between each other, only pausing to drink the tea I'd made. Very impressive to watch how well they worked together. Perhaps synchronised carpet fitting could become the next new Olympic sport🤔

I'm amazed at all the things others on here have to do, maybe it's because you own your houses and there is lots to do in upkeep ect

Interesting point.
I think a lot of people enjoy having jobs/challenges to do. I have never been one of those people and now, in my position, any serious jobs that need doing I pay someone to do it.

Barnet,
Although I enjoy doing jobs around the house, it's not a constant round of DIY.
I have other things to do, dog walking, bike riding, gardening and visiting places, just getting out and about and not sitting in the house. There are many other things to busy myself with.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Mr WD does just about everything here. Electrical, plumbing, roofing , drainage, carpentry, the lot. He started doing it when we were broke, and now he does it as getting anyone to do anything round here is a challenge to say the least. My son and son in law are exactly the same.

We are all very different - as ever.

Putting house ownership aside, I remain singularly unimpressed with retirees that constantly have long 'to do' lists to complete and endless activities to participate in. Fair play, if that makes them happy then that is great, but it's not for me.

But, imo, after a lifetime of working some people just don't, or can't, give themselves permission to switch off. We know several couples who cannot simply sit down for a day having a chat, reading a book, or simply just dossing and enjoying each other's company, etc.

I had a friend (not seen for years) and he always HAD to be doing jobs,, fixing things that didn't need fixing. Made me tired just thinking about it.
