I am wondering if we are seeing a slight pattern here; those who advocate retiring also like to be on their own or just with a partner. Maybe their work was spent with people that they did not enjoy the company of; not many of us are able to change that bit, I have been.
I spent a lot of my working life alone ie not in an office. When I had my own company I worked from home.
Like you I had a wife I loved so much so we spent as much time together as possible. Now I have to accept life for what it is.
Seriously, being on this forum helps a lot.

Never had the opportunity myself.

Well there will be no membership charge so feel free.
I am starting to believe this could take off.
Main problem so far is that I only have interest from the male section of the forum.

I hear what you are saying there and we are all very different. So no rights or wrongs.

For me, I loved the 'buzz' of business too, but it always came at a cost ie the loss of personal time.

Way back when I was in the throes of corporate life I thought it was everything I'd ever wanted and that without it, I was nothing. Career success was a major lifetime marker of personal achievement.

Retrospectively, it was great fun, very satisfying but... it ate up precious time that I cannot get back. I see this far more clearly from the older side of the post-60 rubicon.

The moot point being that my thoughts regarding the matter then, are very different to now, and, as with all rubicons, once crossed there is no going back.
Mrs Slick has a great saying I refer to from time to time, never go back as the person you are now.

We are all the captain of our own ship, and we need to live or die by our own decisions.

Seems to work for me, and one of the reasons I am not afraid to ask for advice from those that have done it. :okay:
