I am not that interested in keeping in touch with much younger than me generations. Their heads are in an entirely different space to mine. I cannot relate to their wants, needs, fears, concerns, politics etc.

That sounds like I am closed off to new thoughts and ideas, and to some extent I admit that I am. Call it older-age conservatism!

The people who I like to meet are a similar age to me but who look younger, dress younger and act younger and do not carry the conversational hang-ups of my parents generation.

Admittedly, these are hard to find!

I enjoy conversations with my grandchildren (25 and 21)......we have even talked openly about sex etc.... blimey they know so much compared to when I was 21. But it's interesting.

I agree with most of what you say apart from the bit about not working, I have tried retiring a couple of times and enjoy the buzz of business, which keeps drawing me back.

I hear what you are saying there and we are all very different. So no rights or wrongs.

For me, I loved the 'buzz' of business too, but it always came at a cost ie the loss of personal time.

Way back when I was in the throes of corporate life I thought it was everything I'd ever wanted and that without it, I was nothing. Career success was a major lifetime marker of personal achievement.

Retrospectively, it was great fun, very satisfying but... it ate up precious time that I cannot get back. I see this far more clearly from the older side of the post-60 rubicon.

The moot point being that my thoughts regarding the matter then, are very different to now, and, as with all rubicons, once crossed there is no going back.

Growing older is compulsory, growing up is not.

This is true. We err on the side of not grown up tbh.

Sadly, some of our old friends seem to have aged much faster. Not just physically, but more importantly, in their mindset.

Particularly sad to see in some couples we know where one party has clearly out-accelerated the other party in aged appearance & attitudes.

I’ve just had yet another mad binge Scoffed two big sticky cinnamon buns and a big bag of crisps. The more my weight bothers me the more I seem to eat.

I have found the same in the past - a miserable vicious circle.

Carb' overload seems to make you want more. I don't understand the mechanics of this.

I have a very sweet tooth and if I open a packet of biscuits i will usually munch several. One thing that does work for me is to satisfy the initial craving for something sweet with a Satsuma or a few grapes to take the edge off.
