Not a realisation I am getting old but more of a one for someone I met today.
Today I went to my Ex MIL's funeral, I have not seen my ex for 2 years and not seen any of her extended family for maybe 4 yrs.
One of her Uncles comes up to me and greets me by name and then asks, where is your wife?
My reply was I am still offically a divorcee.
He then asks is your Ex here then?
Yes is my reply its your Niece! June ( the deceased) was my mother in Law for 27 years.

The guy looked really confused and I was a bit upset for him, it took him a little while to dawn on him who I actually was, he told me that yes he forgot a awful lot.

You remember when kids being driven to school was as rare as hens teeth. But if you question parents as to why they drive their kids to school , you get a torrent of abuse for suggesting they walk, cycle or get a bus.
My gawd, I know. Where I lived, I walked for ten years 1970-1980 to my infant school, junior school (it was built opposite the infants in my first year) & the secondary school which was 0.25 miles away. I came back for lunch, so that's 1 mile per day.

My secondary school was just over a mile away, so 2 miles a day. Infant and junior about a 1/2 mile walk each way.

When I pulled up in my low down seats Mini tonight a passing bloke who looked like he was in his 30's kindly offered to help me out of my car. I thanked him, but declined the offer then thought as i got out, why didn't I ask him to carry my shopping bags to my front door instead.🤔

Saw a rather charming short film last week about gay folk of a certain age.

One bloke said that it was when you no longer got cruised.

A woman said that when she went back home to the caribbean and walked into a bar alone she no longer got hit on by folks of whatever gender and persuasion.

"That's ageism" she said with a sort of cheerful anger/regret/life philosophy.

Got a laugh/cheer from the audience

(many also of a certain age as the main feature was this (recommended) flic

Straight folk have also I think commented on a certain invisibility that can descend with age.

When I was a teacher some of the older teachers said you realised you were getting old when a Year 7 started (aged 11) and told you that you taught their GranDad/Mother

Although in some of the families I taught it could be Great Grandparent
