They can stick it in a shed or only test it at night or sommat.

Suppose they would like to be able to see what the matter was if it developed a fault up the line.

European night trains are being expanded a lot at the moment. ÖBB has started with a whole new fleet of night trains with higher specs and space for things like bicycles:

If the English subtitles don't come up automatically there's an auto generated set which are fairly accurate.

Some pics I took yesterday of the local twin tunnels between Dalmuir and Clydebank.

The Canal (out of sight) above that crosses over the tunnel has once again, burst it's banks in the heavy rain:

Yesterday afternoon, back to normal... Sort of.

That is the former 321417 by the way.
One of a few class 321s' brought up after being made redundant from LNWR services out of Euston (they arrived still in their attractive green livery) and reclassified as a class 320/4. They work with our class 320/3s' (same design family) and 318s'.

They are nicknamed 'Dusties' (surprise surprise):

That kind of thing gets the enthusiasts SOOOOOO AAAAAANNNNNNGGGGGGGRRRRYYY here, it's almost funny.

Not so concerned about that. The graffiti artists appear to have left the lifting point logo unmolested, and the door contrast is still acceptable at eye level and above (probably deliberately, otherwise the train may not be allowed back into service). What I am concerned about is the driver's emergency egress from the cab. Assuming that the window can be pushed out / fully opened, the available aperture for the driver to escape via seems a little small.

Usually the important bits are cleanted quickly so the trian can ger back into service; some freight wagon companys seem to use sticky back panels and stick them over the graffiti.

What astonishes me is the the amount of money people have to for spray cans; those cans come in at nearly 10€ a pop. I'm also mystified by the sense of entitlement someone must have to damage someone else's property. I'm sure the people saying it's okay would change their mind if it was their car.

You don't know the half of it. Fierce competition to be the first to tag a brand new vehicle, timing your graffiti so they don't have a chance to clean it off before it goes out, not tagging various bits so that it doesn't get pulled out of service and trains cancelled, using boot polish in pens so that it penetrates the substrate and leaves a more lasting mark, etc, etc, etc.
