Some retro style Fair Isle jumpers here.

I like them all, but for me, this one stands out the most.

I've got an unfeasibly small torso, but I reckon that would look like a crop top on me!

I can't say I'm terribly keen on any of the shoes on that website, they all look a bit cheap and try hard. Some of them might be a bit of fun for some flashy dressup but they're not... good.

I'm gonna say that I'm also not too sure that spectator shoes really work as Derbys. Compare these two and how the eyelets work with the vamp. The bottom ones have this bit of extra leather that's not really doing much and distracts the eye. It doesn't fit with the style of the shoe, to my mind anyway.

(Yes I have now bought some more shoe trees you'll be pleased to know)

Not a fan of the spectator shoe, but I have gone for a pair of these, match in nicely with the jacket and flat cap...

Usual pictorally-bereft update..

Over the years I'm becoming more emboldened to wear more stuff that's outside my comfort zone. I did Christmas pub dinner with mates in a dark blue herringbone jacket, light-grey wool poloneck and dark blue wool trousers with black leather moccasins. Comments were made; one mate suggested a likeness to a member of the Beegees; which apparently was meant as a compliment..

I also attended a big drum and bass night in a thick light grey poloneck and big brown leather double-breasted trenchcoat; which was somewhat unashamedly Shaft and seemed to go down well

In other news I bought a (probably '70s) dark green double-breasted slim-fitting Italian wool trenchcoat with sizeable-if-not-offensive lapels for not a lot of money.. which I love.. Especially with a brown turtleneck with my lovely burnt orange wool beanie and tauple combats for a warm autumn look :becool:

Still on the lookout for beige-ish houndstooth jacket and more recently yearn for a black linen jacket to combine with my black or grey poloneck for a more new wave / goth aesthetic.

I also keep an eye out for a black single-breasted pinstriped suit with peak lapels for pure Scarface sillyness, but am yet to score.

I'd also very much like a full-length blue or brown double-breasted trenchcoat; however these seem to be one of the few items that still retain their value very well; with the few I've seen not hanging around for long and going for £200+.

I remain perplexed by shoes and to a lesser extent trousers..

Not sure if I'm doing it "right", but it's nice not to give a sh*t and step outside the safe, unconsidered boundaries usually encapsulating my wardrobe

EDIT: It's also nice to indulge my midlife crisis in a significantly cheaper and less damaging manner than coke and whores and / or a sports car.. however I can be observed with a manbun occasionally.

Weird optical illusion going on with the carpet there as well.

I'm never sure about that type of shoe, I don't think they'd suit me but those look quite nice. A bit different without being too blingy and in yer face like some of them can be.

That sounds like a good look. I like long double breasted coats.

I've never really been a leather shoes with tweed or fabric parts fan, but I think that half price offer might sway me. Most of my shoes are quite conservative/traditional. Maybe I should er let my hair down a bit, as they say. 🤔There's me asking if they're too young for me, while meanwhile in places like Accrington and even 'posher' places I see men in their 70's and 80's wearing those chavvy black Nike trainers, with all the rest of such chavvy clothing! A bloke came in the retro clothing shop I work in yesterday. He told me he was a retired maths teacher, yet there he was wearing all black chavvy stuff, like black puffer body warmer, black tight at the bottom of the legs 'trackies', black baseball cap (tilted upwards to make it even more chavvy:ohmy:) and er one of those little Nike man bags.

Northerner styler!
I share your aversive shock, and I am quite happy to roam around in a boiler suit and flat cap! ( with knotted muffler round the neck ,true northern style )

Are these made on Fair Isle?
Saying Shetland wool means nothing as it is a description of the wool rather than an indication of origin. Similarly these are easy to knit anywhere.
In our business we used predominately “ Shetland” wool but none of it came from Shetland and we machine knitted a small number of similar pattern jerseys. Never made any particular claims apart from being locally made.
Incidentally does it specify “hand wash only” as it would with a genuine article?

I did get a pair of spectator / co-respondant shoes, but they arrived too late for their intended wear at a gangster themed dinner. Despite being Shipton & Heneage (2nd hand of the 'bay) sadly they were rather crap glued on soled foreign made so I never wore them subsequently. Maybe I'd have the nerve to wear a tan &white pair with a light coloured linen suit at summer wedding but can't quitr bring myself to spend the £200+ for a proper make pair from Northampton

They usually do say hand wash only, if they have a hint of wool in the garment. The one below which looking at it looks fitted, so better for slim me that the other 1920's/30's Prince Of Wales one which looks quite baggy, is according to the description sourced and knitted in The Shetland Isles. Those Revival retro ones are sourced in Scotland, but woven in Yorkshire.

Hand wash or dry clean only.

Hand-produced in Scotland with wool spun in Yorkshire.

-100% Pure Wool-

A beautiful authentic long sleeve Fair Isle sweater, patterned front and back, made popular in the 1920/30s by the then Prince of Wales. This sweater is knitted in the Shetland Isles using locally sourced wool. A truly stylish piece as popular now as it was in the 20s. This sweater will finish off any vintage golfing outfit, perfect for those hickory golf days.

I've given up on the Fair Isle sweater search for a while. I messaged the seller of the one above, asking the length of the arms. He messaged back saying they are 23 inch long. That's no good for me as I have a 25 inch arm length, so I'm now after MORE fedoras. This won't be a quick process as I like to add stuff, then take things out of the basket/cart. I found these from a Facebook advert. I like these 4 so far. If I had to choose 2 I'd go for number 1 and number 2.

I received an e-mail today from the seller, offering me 25 percent off if I buy in the next 24 hours. So that'd be about £105 for 4 hats, which isn't bad at all!
