My first pair Crocketts were in a sale for £200, a fair wodge nearly 30 years ago. I still have them, and two resoles plus other work have likely cost more than the original £200 in repairs. I guess £500 new is the same in real terms, but I would still balk at that much.
I still have my Church's brogues bought for £140 (reduced from £280) approx 30 years ago.

I picked up some £240 John White Brogue boots for £99 last month, hoping they last as long!

I've got a pair Church's oxfords I bought 25 years ago. I only still have them because I wear them very infrequently.

£200 for the top end Loakes seems very good value though, and far better value than my similarly priced so say "Italian" cycling shoes, which are merely glued together no doubt by sweat shop labour in the Philipines

This proves the point nicely, had you have bought a cheap pair of shoes for £40 a year that would have been £1200 over 30 years.

Interesting. 🤔

Only eleven percent of men in Britain wear 'dress shoes', as in well made leather ones. The renowned makers of such shoes aren't doing too well in this 'leisure shoe/none luxury' wearing society. 🧐

Dude in the video is a total walloper. "vaulted", ffs. The word he was looking for is "vaunted".

Wtf is that ill-fitting purple jacket, M and S white shirt combo about?

'Ash', the bloke who does The Chaps Guide videos constantly tells us of his military service which involved 10 years in the RAF regiment. He does admit to not seeing any action in those 10 years or even being posted to a combat zone. I suppose those 10 years were spent doing spit and polish stuff, hence his liking of 'smart' clothing. He also tells us of items, saying 'in no way am I on the payroll of this company' etc etc. Yeah right, he pumps stuff just like he's advertising it, not just complimenting it! He also has a tendency to get facts and dates wrong. Apart from all that, I quite like his videos and find them informative. I've also looked at and sometimes bought those items he insists he isn't 'pumping', or maybe bought a similar item to the one he's crowing over.

I ordered this jumper today. It's an Arthur Beale https://arthurbeale.co.uk/products/...ariant=43999462818021&gclid=CjwKCAiAjfyqBhAsE, but probably a slight second, hence the greatly reduced price. I've been after such an item since oooh let me see, since I satisfied my must buy clothing addiction by buying more tweed trousers last week! I chose this submariner roll neck over others mainly due to it having 24.5 inch arms in my L size. My arms are 25 inch but this jumper has thumb holes to pull the sleeves down even further if required. Some others in L size were only 22 or 23 inch arm length.

I bought these trousers I've previously mentioned yesterday, in a 'please cut to' note to the seller, asking for a thirty two and a quarter inch inseam length. £120 after discount code and sale price, so I'm quite happy with my buy.🧐

They arrived today. A bit wider that I expected, but that's not a problem. I can tell they are made of a quality material and although of a quite course tweed they don't make my legs itch at all!
