I keep seeing Peter christian ads - are they any good?

Tempting, but they don't offer a 33 inch inseam only 32, or too long for me now 34 inch. I might order them in 32 inch and see how they look. 🤔

Surely a Man with your style and savour- faire will have his personal Taylor on call. Altering the inseam should be no problem.

After quite a few weeks of deliberating, adding to the basket, taking out the basket, I've eventually bought these two pairs of suitable for spring and summer trousers.

'Super 100s' is a weaver's term that refers to the superfine texture of the wool used to make these trousers. Light as thistledown and silky soft. They are cool on warm days and warm on cool ones. Smart choice!

I think they are sensible, quite classy, practical and with having two pairs of the same trousers at the opposite of the colour wheel, they will offer many mix and match options.

@PK99 Seeing as you asked about Peter Christian quality, I will give my appraisal after a few wearing them experiences. :okay:

I have started to gradually read through this thread and have already learned a few things, thanks!

Me? Well I have let myself go a bit, I have 3 main pairs of trousers I usually wear, they seem to be bombproof and just keep going... Except that the oldest is now about 6 years old and it probably shows... So I am in the market to get new trousers, preferably smarter ones too (these are black, walking but smart trousers, by Regatta (someone will no doubt be along in a minute to tell me how awful Regatta is or something)).

Annyway... My latest purchase was a rather nice, red jumper from a charity shop... I had not even looked at the label or anything, other than for the size, so there I was, at the till and the woman serving me is looking at it

'You've got a bargain there!'

She said.

Turns out it is only an Italian Merino jumper by Jasper Conran.

Price? £4.50.

I have a very bright lime green Regatta anorak/cagoule type jacket. I haven't worn it for a few years due to image change ( You have to move with the ageing process :okay: ) , but it was/is a nice jacket. I've bought a few Regatta items over the years and always found them as good as much more in cost 'must be seen in' stuff.

They arrived the other day and they're going back asap. I tried the navy one's on. They are about 1.5 inches too long, they are also too kind of shop's uniform looking ( I worked for Boots chemist decades ago and had a similar pair) and the 'navy' is more indigo than navy. Even the 'sand' coloured pair are more sage green than sand, though I haven't taken them out the plastic bag as there wasn't any need to try both on, so maybe the wrapping distorts the colour. I can't weigh up why at 33 inch they are too long, as I used to have a 34 inch inseam up till a year or so ago. Surely I'm not 32 inch now? 🤔 The 100% wool is also so fine it could be mistaken for a man made fiber. I bought a pair of '33 leg', 100% grey polyester trousers for a mere £2.50 the other month from a charity shop and I have to say they look and fit better than the Peter Christian ones and the material feels the same as the 100% wool ones.

I prefer wool to be in a more rustic/tweed form for trousers. :okay:

This is crazy! I thought I'd measure the inseam of the trousers to see if they actually are 33 inches, before sending them back. They are 33.5, which adds to the too long problem, but I did measure my inseam and found it to be a worrying 31 inches! A few years ago my inseam was 34 inches. Last year it was 33 going on 32 inches. Now it's a mere 31 inches! It seems that my inseam is shortening by an inch a year, meaning that if i were to live another 30 years, taking me to 92, my inside leg will be a mere 1 inch long!!!

On the returns form I have the option of asking for a different size without having to pay P&P for that different size. I might ask for a 31 inseam and see how they are.🤔 Maybe I was a bit hasty is saying they look too formal etc. I think that if a 31 inseam fits well they'll look much better and they might grow on me.🤔

Interesting thread, about threads.

I donated my suits to charity when I retired and have no intention of ever wearing one again, I even had to buy a special pair of black trousers for a funeral.

I now live in logo'd t-shirts I make myself, and cheap black jeans, with an occasional pair of M&S jeans with lycra for a bit of give.
My favourite footwear is my pair of altbergs all weather hogs, that are now 20 years old - definitely get what you pay for with those.

I will never be old enough to wear those Peter Christian trousers, and will jump in my own coffin before I wear loafers.
