That’s for protection, the wider the brim, the further away hubby stays 👍

I've never come across that before. You live and learn, eh?

It does say you can gently hand wash it, but it's so big and bulky no way would it fit in a bucket or a sink, especially when wet. I'd maybe risk it on a gentle cold woolens machine wash using a wool friendly liquid wash without using a fabric conditioner. 🤔

Mmmm, they look and sound quite well made for the relatively 'cheap' price! 🤔 I have a pair of Herring winter/autumn boat shoes. They are very robust and well made. I need a pair of black Oxfords to go with an Austin Reed navy pinstripe double breasted suit I bought the other week from the retro clothing shop I work in. These shoes are Goodyear Welted Dainite, available in either a rubber or a leather sole. If I do buy them I'll get them with a leather sole as to me leather soles are lethal on most surfaces, especially man made fiber stairs carpets!!

I've just read the description of those shoes. A wardrobe essential? Dearie me...

It is if you want to look smart and catch the eye of those who compliment you on your standard of dressing. However if you wear such as badly scuffed Doctor Martens boots with rainbow laces laced half way up, then it certainly won't be.:cuppa:

Even better, these are half price in the Herrings sale. They aren't Goodyear Welted, but that doesn't bother me as I'm not into sending shoes or boots back to the maker, costing about £90 to be re-soled. I have pairs of Goodyear Welted shoes and boots that are quite a few years old and the soles are hardly worn down, so those shoes will probably outlive me. I might even buy the black AND the burgundy ones as well. 🤔

They only get brought out for special occasions these days and are regularly complimented.

It depends on your wardrobe. I used to spend five days a week in an office where I wore formal office attire (suit, tie and shiny Oxfords) so I have four pairs and they certainly used to be essential to me.

These days decent casual shirts, trousers and whatever kind of footwear I feel like are more 'essential'.
