Could always jam a bit of broom handle in it ^_^

I think that's probably what the seller deserves, tbh..

Not a cafe but this thread has strayed far away from the thread title already...

I went to the Gong bar on the 52nd floor of the Shard with a couple of friends on Sunday (one had their birthday)...

5 cocktails (and not the extra posh ones), two 330ml bottles of Meantime pale ale, 5 veggie Gyoza (I'd missed lunch) and 4 little pots of 'free' nuts/corn snacks...

Total bill £168.75

Yes, I realise you're paying for the view in a 5 star hotel bar but I'll only go again if someone else is paying!!
Luckily they restrict your table occupancy to 90 minutes!!

I’ve been there too and stayed in the hotel.

I would expect to pay £130 for that bill.

So it does seem a bit bigger than expected.

Cocktails were £23 each, beers a tenner, Gyoza £15... all plus 12.5% service (which to be fair was very attentive)

And restricted to 90 minutes.
For that price I would expect a bed settee for the night.

Well so would I in Warrington …
I’m guessing a room is £300+ a night minimum

Given the cost, the 90 min thing was a bonus, we went to another bar and had what I guess were £6 or £7 pints

I used to regularly work and stay in London (at least 15 years ago). It was always more expensive but not by that much.
I have "wined and dined" at the Grosvenor and the Dorchester which were very expensive but not by % that much.

There you go.
5* hotels are expensive anywhere in the world, especially in 'World' cities/capitals

I worked for the London Tourist board in 1996-97, part of my job was booking hotels, rooms at the hotels you mention were £300+ then
