That, imo, is very good.
My local charged me £8.50 for a regular size. TBF it was very nice and did for both of us.

Does anyone here eat a full portion?

All the chippies that I've been to seem to offer massive portions and I'd quite happily settle for a slightly smaller one that costs less, near us there's one that we get two lots from that easily feeds three people.

And in Chorley there's a place that does a small lunchtime special, whenever I'm in the area for work I'll try to call in and it's always packed out and queueing out the door.

Ummm maybe if hungry enough (unless the skin is left on and it’s attached to the bottom batter)

Full portion of fish, yes. Chips, never.

Usually now my wife & I get one portion of Cod & chips and a portion of cod bites, and that is plenty for the two of us.

I always go for the small portion of chips and regular fish and eat every last scrap (just). They used to offer a small fish but that was a bit too small, and the large fish is ridiculously huge  (and costs £7.50)

almost shabby chic

I can’t see how pubs can remain viable at those prices.

My local averages around £3.75 for a cask/real ale.

Landlords told me he's lost about 500+ regulars the last couple of years as his base is the elderly crowd who do unfortunately pass, and there aren't many young uns going in for him to counter that.

It's not so recent but last mother's Day he had around 70ish bookings, last year he had over 250.

Whatevers happened since the start of COVID it's definitely affected pubs in a bad way.

£6.45 is ridiculous though, I'd rather buy 3 or 4 ales from the supermarket and stay in instead.

Pubs shut for extended period and people changed their habits; drinking at home or not drinking at all. Found this quite an acceptable situation. Pubs reopen and some of the at-home drinkers return, as do some of the non-drinkers. But not all. Hence people like joiners, builders etc who can build "at home" entertaining space have never been busier

This wasn't the problem my LL mentioned but that unfortunately a lot of his base (the pub replaced an older co,munity centre) are now passing.

You're right on the habits though, I usedto be a 2/3 times a week pub goer, I'm now more like twice a month.

£7.75 here - probably better value than a fiver or so for a Quarter Pounder & Large Fries from McD's last week.

I went over to a mates about a month ago and we went to the chip shop to fetch our tea, cod and chips twice was £21. We aren't going there again.
