Can you please excuse a general whinge about the price of...

... DIY materials.

This week the prices of paint, wood preservative, marine ply, fencing posts and bolt down brackets have really gotten my goat.

I paid £2 for some hacksaw blades. I thought there would be about six in the packet but there were only two.

Quick data check, in 2003 - 28p
in the 20 years before that 1983 to 2003 it went from 16p to 28p. Nice one Royal Mail.

I can't remember the last time I bought a stamp, the last time I physically touched one was probably a few years ago when I worked at a place that printed them near Wolverhampton.
 
In the last few years the only time I have used stamps has been sending the few Christmas cards each year that cannot be delivered in person.
I always had a book of 1st class stamps in my wallet out of habit - used up the last in December before they became out-of-date
didn;t realise the cost had risen so much!!!
