Two small portions of chips = £5.60 here in Lowestoft today. And a sausage literally the size of your little finger was £2.30. Add on £1.50 for a can of drink to share; that’s a pretty much a tenner gone.

Don’t seem long ago a small portion of chips was £1, as was a sausage. I must be getting old…..

I do think time passing has a big effect.

The distance between 1977 to 2000 seems so much bigger than 2000 to 2023. But they are both 23 years.

Most sellers are reasonable when it comes to small low-value items. But you've got some that will charge between £6 and £10 for a basic Second Class letter or packet.

Makes what would otherwise be a good buy do a "stayputnik"

Know the price of materials has shot up a lot and the cost of wood for fences is very high but seen this used and rotten (as described by seller) fence wood and seller is wanting £200?
If i owned it i would be delighted if some one took it for free to save me a trip to the recycling centre, treated wood is not even good for the log burners because of the treatment it has gone through and the toxic fumes released when burnt?

better of getting one large portion, particularly if you're friendly enough to share a can of pop

How about before tinternet £54.50 from a Glasgow suburb to here?
I went to MacBrayne Haulage and they said they charged £4.50 from their main Glasgow depot delivered here. The initial carrier was a prime rip off merchant.
Many producers are tied to one carrier and everything must go that way so ripe for exploitation.
We once had a supplier who could not use Royal Mail as it had to be carrier. They sent the parcel to our local carrier by post for onward transportation.
They got no further business from us.

That would've been £3.80 for two, no sized portions but certainly big enough chips (takes me 20 minutes to get through them) and £1.40 for a 7.5 inch by 1,25 inch sausage (sad one might say but I measured one ) in the chip shop I go to in Accrington. £5.20 is nearer a fiver unlike, your nearer a tenner £7.90 price. :okay:

I think the cans of pop are over £1 though. Heck, I remember cans of pop costing sixpence, which was 2.5p at the time of decimalisation.

Tesco olive oil spread was 85p at the start of the year. Less than three months into the year it's now a rip off £1.35!!
