Just checked on the TPT map & Hull to Hornsea is shown as 14.75 miles. Probably more accurate than my computer

Tip for anyone travelling by train from York (Arch) When you go to buy your ticket, check on the price of a ticket from York to Beverley as well as York to Hull. It used to be cheaper to buy a ticket through to Bev  for some reason, but not sure if it's still the same.

I was actually paying attention to the surfaces on my commute today & your are right, it should be fine all the way to the A165 on a road bike, so we only need to split from there
Never mind meeting us with drinks & biscuits, meet us with your bike & come along for the ride

Unfortunately I've cracked a rib, so I've got to keep off the bike for a few weeks - hopefully though, I'll be fit for 6th September.

may i ask how ???

Ah, well, I jumped out of a plane at 14000ft and ...

Erm, hang on, no, I was climbing this really tall ragged rockface at the weekend ...

No, I was, erm, wrestling crocodiles in the Florida Everglades ...

Okay, I give in, I got schnitfaced last Thursday and woke up on Friday morning about 6am on the kitchen floor with a pain in my side.

The pain grew steadily over the weekend and I finally dragged myself to A&E yesterday. The doctor examined me and said that I might well have cracked a rib, but that an x-ray would be a waste of time and resources because the treatment was the same regardless of confirmation - painkillers and rest. Time will heal, and don't get to shitfaced next time I'm out!

After texting the mates I was out with, turns out I was skylarking around at the end of the night and got jumped (whilst my back was turned, so I wasn't expecting it) and went down like a sack of spuds. Probably fell on someone or something.

Problem is, after 7 pints and 3 Zambucha's I can't really remember what went on!

The wife has been remarkably understanding, but in that quiet ... I-know-I'm-going-to-pay-for-this-at-some-point ... kind of way! ;)

Cheers,
Shaun

so...

We're talking about either a ride on Saturday the 6th, of about 14-17 miles each way, Hull to Hornsea and back.

and/or

Riding from Hull to Hornsea, and then camping near Hornsea, courtesy of soltydog, and riding back next day.

Would be good if timings could allow for people to do either, and still take part...

With the potential for a vehicle going from York (depending on Mickle's commitments), alternatively, any Yorkies (me) will have to get the train...

Is that right?

arch there is a straight through train that would get you here for 10.56am. i think there was mention earlier in the thread of a 10.30 start, so pushing it back to 11 wouldn't make much of a difference to anyone i wouldn't have thought.
cheers, velocidad.

Cheers for all that Admin! If it can be avoided, I tend to prefer straight through services, esp with a bike - somehow you always end up havig to lug it up and over a footbridge or something...

Can we hold off on the exact timing for meeting up then, until I know whether I'm coming on the train, or if Mickle can come up with the vehicular goods?

I suppose changing at Selby might not be too bad, it must be a teeny station.. I'd hate to be wasting people's good cycling time...

Selby is only a small station, but i bet you would still have to lug it over the footbridge  The direct train 'should' be much easier & 11 o'clock start should be fine

I've got a mate who fancies coming along with us, and I just wondered if we have an idea of how many people are coming?

Also, is it worth putting up a forum-wide announcement to see if anyone else wants to join in?

Cheers,
Shaun
