My boys were dreadful tonight and still managed to beat Pompey 3 - 0. Boy, Portsmouth are bad, shockingly bad. I've been reading on the BBC website comments from Portsmouth fans they were denied to nailed on penalties. I was at the game and neither I, nor the people I sit with, saw anything like two potential penalties.

You made a comment in 'the old farts' thread about watching a field of grass for 90 minutes. I didn't comment as I didn't understand what you meant.
Please explain to this ignorant scouser ^_^

Of course Dave, as a red you'll never have suffered these sort of evenings. 🤣 Usually in November. Cold, damp, foggy, dark. You leave home knowing the game will be dreadful, your own boys will be grim and you'll shiver for 90 minutes. You've seen it all before!

Rovers opened with 10 -15 minutes of good football, we settled back feeling confident, then we lost our way and got worse and worse. I was sure we would gift Portsmouth a goal by half time and then lose. The start of the second half was brighter. Brittain floated over what looked like a dreadful cross only for Gueye to nod it in from a difficult angle. From that point Pompey offered nothing and we ran out easy winners despite being very poor.

I'm a supporter, never miss a game no matter what. It's miserable nights like these that earn those 90 minutes of unbridled joy when we play well!

That's what it's all about. Deep down we both know that.

Is Haarland's new contract an effort by City to circumnavigate the FFP rules?

I've no idea but it occurred to me the whole deal seems a bit unusual. Anything can happen in 9½ years.

Does sound weird. Don't recall ever seeing anything similar before.
Not sure how it would/could "circumnavigate FFP rules" though.

Pompey definitely not shockingly bad today. 2-1 win over Middlesborough, level on points with Hull. I think it'll go down to the wire, but they're still fighting…

Also definitely not shockingly bad today: Darwin Núñez, who came on as a sub and scored twice.

A podcast recommendation- I don't usually listen to these things, or radio for that matter, but I've enjoyed this one. 53 Minutes, hosted by Dara O' Briain and Josh Widdecombe, six half-hour episodes. The subject is the most famous Senegalese footballer ever to grace these shores, for all the wrong reasons, Aly Dia (usually spelt, wrongly, as Ali). The man who after making his way around various lower league teams in multiple countries not doing very well, somehow got signed up by Southampton in 1996 having claimed to have had a decent career and to be the cousin of George Weah, and who made one ill-fated league appearance as a sub before being hauled off himself and disappearing back into obscurity, and ridicule. See also, the Bleacher Report, who managed to track him down.

Sounds well worth a listen, nice one.

Micah Richards visited North Shields to see them progress to the last 16 of the FA Vase.

He went to South Shields first...

I'm vaguely annoyed that I spent the weekend away (though it was worth it) but I'll be there on Saturday cheering on The Robins against Whitchurch. The ground is a 5 minute walk from my flat so they're very much my English team.

Non league football is glorious.

Another home win, 3-1 against Stoke, leapfrogging them and three points clear of the drop zone. That's six wins out of seven at home, if only the away form were a bit better.

Meanwhile: Man City got thumped by PSG and have to beat Club Brugge to progress in the CL. Oops.
