I reckon given the number of anti helmet posts on this forum even if some of you were presented with concrete proof that helmets can save lives you would probably still argue against them. Helmet wearing is personal choice, I personally believe a helmet could save my life in the event of a crash where my head is likely to impact with a car windscreen or similar so therefore I will continue to wear my helmet. That is my personal choice.

All this "concrete proof" also applies to pedestrians, and pedestrian helmets - yet some people on this forum still argue against them

Off to the coast? Don't forget to wear a lifejacket, and don't let anyone tell you a buoyancy aid will be sufficient.(insert serious face smiley)

Helmets are essential near the coast as they save you when a member of the Press Gang hits you over the head with a spike

No helmet and you may find yourself miles away from home on a diet of Rum, hard tack and Weevils

i personally believe that if i say a prayer to Jesus before i ride, my God will protect me... seems to be working a treat. Isn't faith great?

So long as you have the right Deity?

Is there was website that tests Deities in these circumstances

... Is there a "Snell type" Deity, and is there a maximum speed to which Deities are tested?

Without knowing it you could be using an inferior Deity

I don't want to put anybody off walking, it's a great way to get about and is good exercise, but please take care when out on the road and always wear a rucksack. It saved this boy's life (the police and doctors said so, so you'd be a fool not to listen to them) and might just save yours, you never know.

Please share with everyone you know. If it saves one life it'll be worth it.

Since it is impossible to make unborn babies wear helmets the next best thing may be expectant mums wearing compulsory onesies ;)

and the above answers are exactly what I would expect from all of you who debate strongly against wearing helmets.
Ben comes onto the forum and proves his helmet saved his life, his helmet has been destroyed completely by the impact but he survived albeit with head injuries but he survived nontheless. But all of you who are so strongly opposed to wearing helmets choose to mock and make sarcastic comments, how very mature (sarcasm intended).

As far as that goes, that is all perfectly understandable. The issue is more complex though, and the fact is that helmet wearing disproportionately portrays cycling as a dangerous activity.
So helmet wearing whilst horse riding disproportionately portrays horse riding as a dangerous activity.
Helmet wearing whilst canoeing disproportionately portrays canoeing as a dangerous activity.
Helmet wearing whilst rock climbing disproportionately portrays rock climbing as a dangerous activity.
Bt engineers working in the green boxes at the corner of the street wear helmets, does that mean it disproportionately portrays being a BT engineer as a dangerous activity.
the list goes on.

Just anecdote rather than a real test, but I'm happy to report that my malt loaf kept me safe to Brighton. I avoided head injuries and drowning, as well as rum, sodomy and the lash. I'm a bit worried about the return leg. I'm hoping that the magic persists in the gooey residue that remains in the wrapper. Wish me luck...

Nope

Usually a basic First Aider

Their limit of knowledge on head injuries is normally less than the average Goldfish

Bit nasty that isn't it, the first responder will have given first aid and done his best to ensure ben was protected from further injury, I'm willing to bet there's more than a few of us on this forum who wouldn't have had a clue what to do under those circumstances.

Having read your list I suspect there are some that will never carry malt loaf again.

I think you might have a think about what you have written here. I'm glad he is OK but we have no way of knowing whether the helmet helped or not. As a best guess, maybe.

Firstly Steve, I Do wear a helmet.

Secondly I am glad to hear Ben is on the road to recovery but the fact he was wearing a helmet does not prove anything.

The thing I have a problem with is peoples choices being taken away from them due to scaremongering and todays nanny state.
