Flower bed
Oak Avenue (off Lime Pit Lane)
Stanley
Wakefield

I'm old enough to remember when most of the (Council) estates had flower-beds in them. the public parks too
Even the roundabouts in the city centre, such as the Bull Ring had flower-beds too!

Remnants of WW2 gun emplacements
Otley Old Road
East Carlton
Leeds

(just north of Yeadon Airport…. Leeds/Bradford as it was renamed)

AV Roe had an aircraft factory adjacent to the airfield, this was part of the defences

Lido (derelict/abandoned/filled in)
Alongside River Wharfe
Fearnley Lane
Otley
Leeds

IMG_1058.jpeg

Nothing much is happening
I cut round the side of the gate/fence in the photograph below, to have a look from this side
IMG_1094.jpeg

I’m pretty certain that this toilet block was the entrance (directly to changing rooms?), hence the large window to the left (payments?)

Go to ‘the derelict site’ section, for an aerial photo that seems to back my supposition up

The Sun Inn
Brame Lane
Norwood
Harrogate
Between Otley & the A59, joining it, where the 'golf-balls' are (Menwith Hill, the US 'listening station)

This was our destination for dinner, & very good it was too!!
We've been before, quite a few times, the last was March 2023, en-route home from a long weekend in Cumbria (27 images)

Joanne was happy, as it's still a Theakstons pub, but she had their 'Best Bitter' (instead of the usual; Old Peculiar)

The Missing Image

This is the site of the (almost) legendary ’Dunnys’
Officially the ’Wharfe View Cafe’
Closed in 2014

Known, & loved, by countless cyclists/walkers/towns-folk

A vehicular visit here, as that's my old Discovery

Cafes. Dunnies. 3.JPG

We used to reckon that if you ate £5 of food, you'd not want to ride out of Otley, via East Chevin (or West), up past Wharfedale Hospital & 'The Spite')
Even Leeds Road might have it 'revisiting'
Cafes. Dunnies. 6.jpg

Real chips, these were thinner than nomal
The Pie was made in a 'baking tray', not the little individual (tin-foil) pie

Old Railway Bridge
New Road
Old Snydale
Wakefield

This bridge abutment, is one of the remains of a branch-line to Don Pedro Colliery (slightly amended name from 'Dom', after the Emperor of Brazil, he visited in the 1870s)
The opposing one is long-gone

There's a large (1960's?) detached house to the left of the bridge, it has a huge garden
The owner was a client of my wifes (she co-owns a home care company)

It's the north-south line; https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16.4&lat=53.68881&lon=-1.39827&layers=168&b=1&o=100

The Royal Sovereign & The Crown
(junction of) Wakefield Road & Queen Street ('WR' goes straight ahead past the blue sign & the old Chapel)
Normanton
Wakefield

IMG_1117.jpeg

The high building in the background, behind The Crown, was one of the local cinemas

The rear view is seen here

IMG_1118.jpeg

Before we bought the house we're in now, we considered this, as it was still one dwelling at that point
Now it's several flats
The Auditoria is now the garden (or was)
