Lee Mount Community Orchard (more of a 'garden'?)
Mount Road
Stanley
Wakefield

I'd driven past it once, but wasn't able to read the sign correctly, so turned round at Long Causeway, then again at the bottom of Mount Road in order to park where I have

As the opening image suggests, this was a railway line, with it in a deep('ish') cutting, it closed in 1964 (Stanley Station was to the east/the right)
It ran from the Castleford - Leeds line, via Stanley, joining the Leeds - Wakefield - Doncaster - Kings Cross line adjacent to the (present) site of Outwood Station
I can remember it as the cutting, before being filled in

There is an adjacent bridge on Long Causeway, where the 3-storey brick building is

The roof apex seen over the parapet is the (built as a Wesleyan) Methodist Chapel, now closed & for sale

Baptist Chapel
High Street
Normanton
Wakefield

It’s opposite the local ASDA (they took it over, it was built as a NETTO), which was built on the site of the swimming baths, &
’The Majestic’, one of the local cinemas
The ASDA incorporates some of the old stonework from the baths
They were still standing, but closed, when we moved into the area
(I have a photograph of them on my lap-top, or the external hard-drive plugged into it, l’ll edit this later, as l’m using my iPhone at the moment)

My Kodiaq in frame, as it’s easier to park there (30 minutes free), than queue around the ASDA car park

As that’s my old Discovery 50th Anniversary in the shot

Town Hall (local Council offices)
High Street
Normanton
Wakefield

It’s opposite the old Police Station, which was replaced by a larger one/‘central custody’ at Havertop (not far from jct 31/M62)
It stands, as you face the building to the right of the Chapel in #1

I knew the Geoff Lofthouse as mentioned in this 'Yorkshire Post' obituary;
https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/new...-from-mining-community-to-westminster-1787000
In later years, he became Lord Lofthouse of Pontefract
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_Lofthouse
Circa 2009 - 2010, he was our Non-Executive Chairman, & an utterly splendid chap to talk to, get him talkng about industrial heritage (for example) & you had a friend!! (not even Consultants wanted to interrupt him!!)

Boundary Stone
Ripponden Road/A672
Rishworth Moor

I had a little side-trip (about 1/2 mile) off the M62 earlier this morning, en-route to Ringway Airport
(taken about 06:00)
This is just south of jct 22

Plus, this is one of only (I believe?) 3 m/way junctions that have cattle-grids!

All along RoperGate

She was quite good!

I’m given to understand that Pontefract now has a drag-bar, or at least on certain nights?
These 2 ladies entered into the spirit of the event
A lot of people were talking to them, taking photographs
I guess it’s all good publicity for the bar/club?

A local Hamtun BM, spotted amongst the debris on today's dag walk. I've passed this one loads of times but not spotted it before.
Maybe there was less cr*p there today!

By Clifton Lock on the River Nene. No visible inscription whatsoever so was glad of the info beside it!

Also useful, I think, for our forays into history... 👍

I (and most of my family in various capacities) worked with Malcolm on the original restoration back in the 90s. I'm really glad to see it's finally been brought back to it's former glory.

Wentbridge
(south of Pontefract)

The eponymous bridge
This was the ’Great North Road’/A1, until the viaduct slightly to the east opened in the early 60s
I'd dropped our daughter off at a wedding, at Wentbridge House (seen in the 'right' background)

EDIT; Monday 1st @ 09:43
2015 Ackworth Half-Marathon, taken in almost the same spot, I'm suffering here (a lack of training, due to Plantar Faciitis)
Still a reasonable result, if I'd been fit, I'd have aimed for a 1.40 'ish'
