For the 'none-locals', Aberford is just west of the present A1, between HookMoor (where M1 joins) & Bramham Crossroads (where the A64 intersects)
The 'Great North Road' (old A1) ran through the village, until it was bypassed in 1963

This is a section of the Aberford Fly-Line, from the Gascoignes pits, near Garforth, back to coal-staithes in the village

Closed to the public, at the moment

The reason given, is fallen masonry, in the 'tunnel'
Plus, perhaps (given the amount of water entering from the western side - photo with the barrier), it could also be water-logged

I’ve probably featured these before, but not about to go looking
Sadly, they might be lost soon, as the farmland behind the wall has (locally, quite controversially) been sold for housing

Wakefield Corporation Water Works
Station Road (opposite Greenfield Road)
Altofts (as it’s that side of the railway bridge)

It might be worth asking if the West Yorkshire Historic Environment Record includes them as non-designated heritage assets. It probably won't save them but should ensure a record of them is made before (in case) they are removed.

There is another pair at the far end of this road too (after it turns into Lee Brigg, then High Green Road)
Plus apparently a few dotted along roads in Calderdale, from the source reservoirs


Booth Wood Reservoir is one of the suppliers
That’s the one just north of the M62, by Stott Hall Farm (where the carriageways part company, due to geological issues)
