Ah! But what is your chain treatment routine?

Or your tyre rotation regime.....

I have had a succession of vans since the mid 1960,s.
Started with a Commer with rising roof and then a VWT2 for about 100,00 miles before getting a Sherpa coachbuilt then finally a bigger coachbuilt before deciding my touring days were over.
Perhaps not over as I am considering converting my Peugeot Patrner to tiny camper.

Well, I'm home. Figured out how to drain the freshwater but can't seem to suss how to drain the grey water. I can see the outlet but can't see any tap or the like.

It'll be going back soon to have an awning fitted so if I don't figure it out I'll ask the dealer.

I'm tempted by a partner or a normal car and a teardrop caravan. Mens shed chap wants to build one...

With the strength and power of your feculence I'd just leave it for a week - it'll eat through whatever plastic or metal it's currently contained in...

I nearly bought a teardrop caravan but it was just when we were confined by covid so the sale fell through. A roof tent was also considered but having experienced some windy nights in other vans did not think it was a wise buy.

Next trip away planned for half term, end of October, whereupon well be heading for the peaks for a few days. I hope it's cold so I can use the Webasto heater.

Will probably have another short break before then.

Have you got deep pockets or refillable gas bottles?

The webasto heater is diesel powered, at current prices about 12p/hr to run.

But the grill and hob are powered by a refillable gas bottle.

Anyone have experience of coach built campers ? Going to get ideas at the NEC in a couple of weeks. Very expensive, but prices don't seem to drop much - maybe £5-£10k less for a 5 plus year old one. Absolutely loads with relatively small mileage - Euro6 pre ad-blue would suit. 2-4 birth ?

Thinking there could be quite a few downsides re-parking, compared to a standard van/people carrier - loads of beach car parks are restricted height, which would mess us up for the day. Looking at more touring, but have a tent.

Ours isn't a cioachbuilt, but is based on an ex-minibus Fiat Ducato, so is a similar size to many coachbuilts.

Yes, it can be a little harder to find parking spots, but not too much so in my experience.

And it has the upside of much more space. You can stand up without having to raise a pop-up roof, and you have much more storage space than you would in a people-mover sized vehicle. And can even have a fixed bed (Ours has a fixed double bed across the rear - storage space underneath).

My old one was a coach built motorhome.

Part or the reason it went is because it was a one trick pony. Great for going away, albeit still too big for some single-track roads such as found in the Highlands.

And thwts why I went for a van based camper this time. Small enough to users a "daily" driver, does 43mpg, is superb as a base to roam from on days away, and is still good enough to kip in.

We got a van a few years back, a vivaro, and got a pro companyh to partially convert it. Pop top lid with 2 berths and a bench seat / bed for two, extra windows, partial electrics including split supply and leisure battery and diesel heater. LED througout too. Overall a decent job I reckon. The only trouble is it is our only vehicle other than bikes and we do need as reliable family useable vehicle. This has proven to be less than that.

Earlier this year we had to get a new engine. Then there was another breakdown due to dangerous overheating (who thinks an engine temp measure isn't needed is mistaken). That turned into a £200 bill. It is now in the garage getting a similar issue fixed (coolant leak causing overheating).

So what is your advice or opinion on the sell or keep question that such expense will inevitably lead to? I think the bare van value is £10k ish but what to add for the extra work we put in? It is not a "webuyanyvan" type buyervehicle and I do not think part exchange is a good idea neither. So if sell is the answer it will not be as easy to offload this van I think. So if sell is the answer then what is the best way to sell?
