There's a small bar in town put out a call for blues solo / duo acts (it is very small) for Gloucester Blues Week. I dropped a line expressing interest but alas, didn't get the gig. The guy said to me he had over 100 applicants! I never knew blues was so popular and / or there were so many solo and duo blues performers in this area. 100!

I jam with a local blues outfit, Brave Ulyusses, in Northampton occasionally and there's always a good turnout when it's known the chaps will be there.

They've tried to get me on board but their drummer is, frankly, hopeless. A counterfeit Timex from Nigeria could keep better time.

Has anyone owned or played a shorty bass? I'm about to buy a Bass for recording, I might get a shorty one for convenience i.e. slightly easier to play when you're used to a 6 string. And takes up less room. Is there any difference in tone generally? Btw it's going to be the cheapest one on Thomann so not anything fancy

I am primarily a guitarist, but I got drafted into a local band as the bass player, despite not knowing anything about bass playing. YouTube was my friend ...
I borrowed my daughter's cheapo full sized bass initially, and replaced the Mish mash of old strings with some cheap flat wounds. It sounded ok, but, compared to an electric guitar, it was big, heavy on the shoulder, and just plain awkward. Especially when playing in a small corner of a small and crowded pub.
So I bought a short scale bass. From Gear 4 Music, one of their own brand ones, and I have left it with the original round wound strings. It is fine for the sort of accompaniment I do in the band, and is so much lighter and more manoeuvrable.
Sound wise, it just sounds like a bass! I am not aiming to conjure all sorts of effects out of it, or play heavy rock or punk on it. It just does the job that I need it to do, and with a bit of tweaking to string heights, intonation and the truss rod, it plays pretty well, too.

Best of luck with your bass adventure!
