Spookily enough I was just working through a Tommy Emmanuel course and the last piece was Yankee Doodle Dixie. It was a great course but that piece is horrible. May be technically clever, but it's just ugh to listen to (IMHO).

Yes it’s weird sounding, but certainly very much above my ability, just knowing that one part is (I think) played on the bass side, the other on the treble side, I’ve got all on working through a tab, then being able to gradually up the speed till it’s correct!
Edit: I also think that as hobbies go, this is one where you never stop learning something new, no matter how far you progress

Indeed. A fine hobby! There were some cracking players on that YT country video. I used to play in country bands back in the day. Some amazing pickers in that style these days, but you can't beat the oldies :-)

Never tried banjo. I can fingerpick guitar and do so sometimes in bass (proper finger picking, not just fingerstyle) so could probably pick it up.

Unfortunately, Mrs D has to out up with me practicing bass, mandolin, octave mandolin, irish bouzouki and occasional guitar, and adding banjo to thr list might push her over the edge.
