Nice. I've been relearning how to program the Korg this afternoon. Managed to make some sample patches for Footloose and Hungry Like the wolf (not sure the latter will work as we are not playing with a drum machine...)

Nothing programmable on this although for a cheap keyboard it's got some good sounds. I've been mainly using the grand and electric pianos. My playing time is limited but if I ever get a chance it might be fun to hook it up to a MIDI sequencer and make some backing tracks.

Anybody know of a MIDI sequencer that runs on an iPad?

I was trying to recreate the arpeggiated synth sound for Hungry like the Wolf. Annoyingly I found patches for the Korg Kronos but Kronos isn't compatible with Triton. After a couple of hours I now have a version which is pretty close.

Had the strings on my P bass for a long time and it was getting a bit dirty too so I decided to clean it up and try something with the strings which had been getting duller over time. I'd read that boiling them would clean then and restore the tone. I was rather sceptical but decided to give it a go, so into the water and fairy liquid they went for about 5 mins on the stove.
After drying out I put the back. The difference was amazing, the tone was completely different, much brighter and zingier.
Anyone else tried this, should work for guitar too?

boiling bass strings is something I'd heard about in the late 80s, but never bothered trying it myself. I very much doubt that raising the temp to around 100 degrees C is going to make any physical difference to the strings, but it will remove a lot of finger gunk from round wounds.

I'm in the never change strings unless you really have to camp.

While we're on the subject of strings I found some D'Addario bass strings on the equivalent of Gumtree here, about half the UK price. I asked the guy selling if they were genuine, just for a laugh. He replied it was a 'stock clearance '.

It's been tested to an almost scientific level many times and long since determined its taking the strings out of tension that has the effect. The boiling bit has long since been debunked, on a par with the DaPinchi Code.

After playing I'm immediately wipe my strings down with a slightly damp microfiche cloth. No visible smeg.

When i first heard about the boiling 'trick' it was advised for brand new bass strings... you wanna boil 'em first!

It always sounded like horsesh!t to me unless new strings came with some factory 'gunk' to stop them tarnishing in the shop, but nickel and SS doesn't really tarnish anyway.

We could start a rumour that boiling gear cables makes for faster shifting
