Totally agree . In general I tend to watch Eurosport if am watching the Tour live and itv for the highlights.
UNLESS Carton Kirby is on coms. In which case it’s a pleasure to turn over to itv and listen to people who are actually talking about whats going on the the race and know who’s taking part in it .😂

I like Carlton especially on the live bits

He does talk some total rubbish but it can be quite funny if you look at it that way

and the sounds of desperation you get from the commentators when a break goes clear easily right after the start line and the stage is a long one so basically naff all is going to happen until the last 20 km when the sprint teams start to get into position - is great to hear

the problem with Eurosport is often that they just cut into the live commentary and the commentators are talking about stuff they talked about ages ago so they make no sense if you were not there then!

Anyone but Millar....blokes a cock !
Other than that when it comes to cycling I'm easily pleased 😁

could be worse
I can;t cope with Sean Kelly
clearly a superb rider in his day - but as a commentator he just bores with the bets of them
and doesn;t watch what is going on - so there can be a massive attack and he is just droning on about something irrelevant while the other commentators are desperately trying to interrupt without appearing to be saying "shutup you pratt - thingy has just shot off the front and gained 50m on the other GC leaders!!!"

I am the exact opposite.

Anyone but Carton . My dislike of the man and his prattling is so great I cannot watch any sport he is commenting on for more than 10 mins .
It looks like my watching of the Tour de France it doing to be drastically reduced in future years . ☹️

Gets me when they pointlessly waffle rather than describing where the riders are. That is assuming they know accurately, when TdF was in Yorkshire Sherwin and Liggetts description of where the riders where was not always right.

I've just got the channel on a smart TV - works as well as iplayer or similar ?

Should do. Bit of a pain normally having to go left down two to sport ok it and then across five to cycling. Really needs a favourite option.

Most TV apps obsessively remember what you've been watching and pester you with similar stuff. Not so Discovery Plus. It frequently forgets who I am and I have to connect my device again. And when I do log in it says "Who are you? would you like to watch a program on the paranormal?"

I use the Discovery app and chrome cast. It works well enough except not able to watch a live event from the start and I don’t get the incident cues when casting. The women TDU doesn’t seem to have highlights only the full race.

Just spotted this which may explain it:

Sat 25.01.2025 CNBC Sports: Tour Down Under
14:00 - 15:00 (60 min.)

(Description makes it clear it's the women's race.)

So it seems NBC have the UK highlights rights for some reason and have stuck it on CNBC instead of Sky Max or Blaze, and days late instead of timely.
