Barnet,
i have Discovery plus via my BT subscription. The full race coverage is ok, although I also find Carlton hard to listen to. My problem is that the editing of the highlights show is poor and there Is no presentation, build up, or sense of occasion to keep me focused on the event. I don’t watch adverts on tv as I record terrestrial channels and chromecast things like Discovery.

it's a shame ITV aren't going to be able to show the tour, as I like their live coverage and the highlights programme for the extra interviews and interesting sideline articles.
I don't mind Carlton Kirby so much, but Sean Kelly starting to grate on my nerves. Robbie McEwen is very good, and so is Adam Blyth, but the commentator I don't like is Rob Hatch and his convoluted accents for riders and place names.
I wonder if Discovery + will try to cash in and up the subscription fee?

I quite like Carlton -

Can;t stand Sean Kelly as a commentator - seems to just keep talking when things are happening and his voice can be SO boring!
apart from that I like Eurosport coverage - except for the pathetic editing

If ITV has lost the Tdf then I will miss it - alway watch that rather than ES just due to the editing and general professionalism

Also Eurosport programme guide will say, for example something starts at 9pm, so you set it to record, then when you come to watch it, it’s synchronised tiddlywinks or world championship marbles

Yup - I end up setting it to record the episode and ALL repeats

Then my wife asks me why we have 8 stages recorded when it in reality it is only 2 stage but 4 versions of each
but it is the only way of getting a decent chance of having a version that has the finish on it - and in some cases some bloomin' cycling!

Yes, quite often possible to be watching a group of riders and not knowing whether it's a breakaway or a chasing group or possibly even the grupetto.
Meanwhile Sean Kelly rambles on and insists on saying pelatone. Pelatone? Did he get that pronunciation from Rob Hatch?

That is what I mean about professionalism
on a better channel they would start with a presenter saying a couple of sentences to tell you where you are up to and what is currently happening
The rambling on is OK (ish - Sean goes overboard) because the all day coverage has to fill in somehow!
But the editing to make the highlights need to be better than "start at 60 km out and just run it from there"

They have on Quest had Orla giving a bit of an introduction before it defaults to the last x km as alleged highlights. On Discovery Plus the full race coverage for the more important races has timeline markers so you can select those points of note. Those should be the basis of a highlights package. Maybe its something which could thus be cropped together by a computer and AI introductions added. Everyone then trying to work out of that was real Orla or an AI impression.

Ok I'll give you QS floors, but the point stands that many, if not the majority, are not in the UK or have a very minor presence.

What pro cycling brands can you think of that you've come across via other media in the UK other than in their role as cycling sponsors?

Trek, Red Bull, Decathlon, and Lidl. That's about it. Alpecin too, well we all want to keep our hair don't we.

Apart from that ... Hansgrohe - I'm guessing that a lot of cyclechat members have these fancy taps to go with their QuickStep floors. I'd never heard of them until I looked them up. Bora kitchen extractors? Peter Sagan said "I'm loving this cooooking revoluuuution". Probably everyone on cyclechat except me has one. And some smart-arse probably has Decueninck windows.

What is it with cycling fans and obsession with pronunciation?

Jose Been on Eurosport says she gets angry communications from people complaining about the way that she pronounces places and names from the Netherlands. Which just happens to be where she's from and her first language

Either I've got use to him or Rob Hatch has toned down his pronunciations.
Problem with Sean Kelly is he keeps on rambling when something that actually ought to be commentated on happens. Although if he did stop and Carlton said to him "now you were saying" he probably wouldn't have the foggiest clue.

Sometimes. That hasn't happened consistently.

Consistency of presentation would be a miracle. Heck, they've not managed to consistently play the highlights of every stage of a GT yet. At least one gets replaced by Polish Border Patrol or something. Why does a border even need polishing anyway?

I understand people missing ITV coverage and highlights. It's a good way for casual fans to get hooked. I haven't watched it for years personally. Hated the ads and David Millar, but that's my prejudice.
Discovery + has all the racing in the calendar, watch when you want, live or from the start. FF or rewind.
And it's £5.99 pm.
What am I missing... apart from Gary Imlach's polo shirts?
Many people already have BT or sky and get it free as part of their subscription.
