There will no doubt be the cr*p "highlights" on Quest or DMax or whatever they are called then.

Looks like if you want the Tour de France from 2026 it'll only be on Eurosport / Discovery +, not ITV - https://road.cc/content/news/no-tour-de-france-itv-2026-310953

I agree with other posters, this is not great.

Talking to my husband about it, I had no idea how sports have generally become locked behind paywalls. I assumed that football and horse racing etc were on TV every weekend as they used to be in my youth, I didn't realise how this is becoming the model for all sports! But for niche sports like cycling, it's potentially a disaster.

The TdF without Ned, Gary and the highlights would be a sadder TdF.

I'm old enough to be there when CH4 first started coverage (burnt out cars and all) and will be there when they do their final show.

I do have Eurosport but I prefer the ITV coverage and the wee highlights show with the extra reportage in it.

Hopefully something may work out for a highlights show but as most on here, I think it's a backwards step for the sport

Seems like an example of "boiling frog syndrome", in that I admit I hadn't thought about this much; if you held the weekend TV schedules from our youth side-by-side with [free-to-air] now, it's like a different world. Weekend daytime is now ... well, let's be honest it's just as bad as weekday daytime telly! But in Ye Olde Days there was almost a whole day of sports coverage [some of it a bit ropey admittedly, but anyway ..]

Sad times. I hear the 6Nations Rugby may be next to go :-(

This may be the problem on this forum. We are a bunch of old farts. Some older and fartier than others. My first memory of telly of any sort is going round to my grandparents and sitting in their tiny stifling front room where I could watch my favourite thing: the teleprinter. Leyton Orient Nil, Crewe Alexandra Nil.

Millenials and Generation theta or whatever they're called probably see this as entirely normal.

Exactly! I think it’s called the creeping baseline theory! It’s the same with things like birdsong!

Maybe you’re right!

I don't think this is a positive step. It confirms cycling's niche status alongside Speedway, Sailing, Pool etc.

But I guess all sports are headed this way, and money talks.
Indeed. Back behind the paywall for treasure island UK. Well done GCN payers, they've got most Brits over a barrel now.

I'll be turning my dish towards France 2 but it's a shame the itv highights shows are going and we won't get the joy of Gary Imlach's hair any more.

It’s disgusting, how everything is to subscribe to, I’m sure ITV used to have the Vuelta, that was unavailable this year, if they want people to be interested in any sport, let people be able to watch it, the greedy barstewards
