Love the sound of that, suits my style of riding and gives the fat lad at the back a chance.
Fat lad at the back?? My strategy will be to get tucked in behind you as soon as possible. Something tells me you'll be flying in the Velodrome. Must admit I do like the sound of a 1 hour sesh.

I just finished an outside ride using the bkool iphone app and again it was a 3d ride hours later. Maybe they prioritize the iphone app rides? They have never published either of my videos. I guess you have to spend more than $34 on a camera to get good enough quality.

Along the way I was looking for a DTN (dude that's nothing) picture to compete with Add's panoramic shot, but never found an advantage point that even came close. That is a great shot.

Got my Garmin video camera bolted to my handlebars and off up Cheddar Gorge in a few hours, will try and get it edited and uploaded this evening.

Hope the traffic is kind on the way up, as it's Easter Monday, 16C and sunny so I expect it will be busy.

Not sure if a massive curry is the ideal preparation but hey ho ... ;)

A few days off the bike desperately trying to get rid of a niggling cold, I think I might just be there, hopefully back on the turbo tomorrow. After the climbs around Cheddar I want to get more hills done ahead of Velothon Wales in June so I'll be concentrating on the goat stages this month, although if the weather stays this good I'll be heading out on the roads for a few evening rides.

Geoff, how did the Gorge go?

Geoff, how did the Gorge go?

Turned out to be a really nice day and it was great to get back out on the bike in nice warm weather. Fingerless gloves and sleeveless jersey, no less.

Thanks for the route, it really helped!

We started at Cheddar and not being warmed up and never having cycled up the Gorge in real life before, I messed up the start bit. It was a really busy Bank Holiday and the main segment seems to start right at the bottom of the tourist bit, so riding up through the village with pedestrians and cars stopping, etc. was very distracting (I was chatting with another cyclist we met).

I only really realised it was the climb proper as we started to turn left into the actual Gorge, and I then forgot to switch on the video camera! D'oh. I was too knackered to do it again at the end, I'll have to go back sometime.

I did manage to video most of Barrington Combe, but also messed up that Segment as we stopped at the Inn for lunch, so the segment time was over an hour! Nice Bacon and Cheese baguette though.

There was one quite alarmingly steep climb coming up from Blagdon Lake, thankfully short, and a few of the roads around there were in appalling condition, so next time we go I'll try and avoid them.

All in all, a lovely day and we'll definitely be going back again. :sun:

I'll probably upload the little video of the Burrington Coombe climb from the Inn to the top.

I was riding with a friend who has done no training all winter and this was his first proper ride out this year, so outside of the climbs we had a very relaxed pace, and it was really nice just to relax and enjoy the scenery.

I would say that back at the beginning of November we would have been quite closely matched, but with him doing no training and me on the Bkool all winter, he did comment on how much fitter I was.

I haven't had much time yet to compare my times on the KICKR with the times in reality, but at first glance they are not that far apart, and on a couple of the short steep sections of the Gorge I was actually faster in real life, which is surprising.

You can see on this one I lost 22 seconds dawdling and chatting at the bottom, then made it all back and got nearly 30 seconds ahead until I gave back some of that on the steep tight bit, much harder in real life!

I'd say that was a testament to the realism of the KICKR ... :okay:

I remember the steep climbs well, on one the rear wheel spun out on a drain cover and I tumbled onto, a thankfully soft, verge. I also had to dodge tourists in Cheddar.
