I see the downhill speed dropped to 0. What happened?
No idea, didn't see that. Could be when I stopped to call hid to explain what I'd done and ask her how far the next exit was. She was tracking my ride and was getting a smidge concerned that I'd join that very busy road but figered it was on purpose ~ nope, just me being a bit dumb!

Kind of. The A303 whilst not car only, is pretty much a motorway for speed and vehicle types so not really a place to cycle. Lorries hurtling past at 60 mph just a few feet away, and cars doing 70+. I was having to ride in the gutter, over the rumble strip to stay out of trouble. It was not my best move taking that wrong turning! On a plus note though, the road surface was silky smooth
So I was right after all and not a complete moron?

There are a few A roads around by me, which if I were to use would save 4 miles of distance to the nearest town. I never, repeat never use them. So dangerous trunk roads. If you must ride A roads, ride central to the lane to slow traffic and force them to overtake properly, when there is only a gap to do so.

On normal A roads I would do this, riding in primary. But the A303 is an effective motorway linking London to Cornwall with traffic moving at and above speed limits so no way was I riding in a Lane. The lorries wouldn't have time to see me and then change lanes. Too much risk for me and the other traffic. Flippin stupid of me to end up on there - having cycled in London I'm not nervous around traffic but last night was unnerving to say the least!

Sadly it states it only works with medium cage mech so no go! I think the issue with short cage is that the mech can only go so far before it's stretching too much, and the 11 28 is at its limit already! Thanks anyway :okay:

Edit. Although the guy in the video reckons it can be used on short cage!
I've been running outside their 'supported' specs for about 8mths now without issue. A roadlink/hanger extension with a 34 or 36 cassette shouldn't be an issue.

I've driven that stretch of the A303 many times.

I'd say you are either:

a. Crazy
b. In need of a good map/GPS
c. No longer with us
d. Possibly all of the above!

Glad you got out of that alive. Like you say its a motorway in all but name!

Anyone up for stage 5 @5 today? I'll be doing it anyway so hopefully some will join. The ghosts of Gorgeous George and Bugno will be escorting us on this short flat ride.
