28mm are a good size, run at the right pressure will give a comfy and be quick rolling. it's a bit of experiment to get pressure spot on. One method is start with your usual pressure, ride and keep lowering a little till they feel a bit squishy whilst cornering. then up a few psi above that for best ride and speed.

Wow-looks fantastic and terrifying in equal measure. Tempted...

No sweat, 40mm tyres 40t Cass, easy peasy.

I've ridden up 40% and yes it's steep but I could still turn the pedals, more problem keeping front wheel down

At such a slow speed, how do you stop from toppling over?

With the pedals still turning relatively quickly it gives a little bit of stability, that and a little bit of weaving in the steering

This little climb on the Tour of Yorkshire has record 45%(pinch of salt), you can tell its steep with 1mph climbing speed https://www.strava.com/activities/965005040/analysis/7400/7487

Note cadence is still high for such a steep hill

I've just bought some 28's but have not put them on yet. I'm thinking of doing the 'Cheshire Cobbled Classic' this year so got them with that in mind as it includes ten sectors of cobbles. It is Flanders themed with Belgian waffles at the feed stations, Leffe at the end and you get an actual cobblestone upon completion (like Paris Roubaix). And if you make it up 'The Corkscrew' (apparently the steepest road in the country at 45% - gulp ) you get more free beer.
That looks crazy. But for beer, waffle , chocolate and a rock it could be worth it.
They know how to entice you with this....World Team Pursuit Champion Andy Tennant (above) struggles on the absurdly steep Corkscrew in the 2014 Cheshire Cobbled Classic. His team-mate Owain Doull (Olympic Gold Medallist in Rio) keeled over on the lower slopes.

Afternoon all! I'm back from abroad, but picked up a nasty case of man-flu on my travels. I am in no way fit to do a chaingang ride tonight so if anyone wants to do it at 7pm, please decide amongst yourselves who will start the session. I hope to do it Thursday but if still not fit then Saturday.

Climbs like that after 45 miles into the ride?!!

Looking back it's was quite funny,. There we all were cycling along a flat tree covered lane looking across at a reservoir, then around this tiny bend the road rose up like a wall, riders were falling off either because of wrong gear select or just couldn't muster the effort to get up this extremely painful 200 yard climb. I was particularly lucky that those who fell off were off my riding line, the lane being only as wide as one vehicle. As you see from the profile it wasn't the end of the overall climb only the start just not as steep for the remaining.

Welcome back Bill. If you are recovered by Saturday you could do all 7 stages of the Tour of Watopia over the weekend? I have to do 3 so happy to ride with you ;)
