Any thoughts on whether we should include ghosts for the Saturday re runs of the Nations Cup Qualifying league?

Bill is it only the live runs that count towards the league standings, or can people do as many attempts as possible? If the latter I don’t suppose it hurts to put ghosts in does it?

Ghosts should be banned from re runs! It's too easy, if you can manage it, to latch on to a 'better' riders ghost, and draft them to the finish, before pulling out a last minute sprint to pass them and get a better time than you would/could normally achieve!

Just MHO

I understand your sentiment but it opens up another can of worms. This is a more general point rather than specific to this months qualifiers. But if you ban ghosts from re runs does that mean ghosts are banned from all attempts that aren’t live? This then puts people who can’t make the live runs in a position where they are doing solo time trials and at a disadvantage to those drafting in live events. This in turn might put people off joining the leagues who can’t always make the live runs. And if ghosts aren’t banned from solo attempts why ban them from re runs.

Now if you want to ban ghosts for this month I’d maybe understand, but considering you probably want to encourage as many people as possible to join the leagues I’d strongly recommend not banning ghosts altogether.

Not black and white that’s for sure!

Good point Tommy, maybe ghosts for qualification, then a final 'Live' run off with the finalists to decide the team over a couple of courses?

I agree Tommy. Ghosts are an important part of the fun we have in the Chaingang leagues so there's no way we'd ban them. The question is only regarding this months league as it's for the Nations Cup qualifier. I think I'd be in preference of just leaving the ghosts as usual and anyone who wants to load up the grid with ghosts for a solo run is free to do so. I don't think it'll make much/if any difference to who is on the team.

Have added my stage 1 time I did a couple of days ago to the bottom of the spreadsheet

No idea how to do the sorting without cocking everything up!

It also raises another question as to how many attempts you should be allowed to make? I can recall a few occasions over the last month or so where I and others have had good times set on the Thursday night run only to have them beaten by someone who rode on the Thursday riding either 'solo' or on the Saturday re run.

Nations cup is a one attempt race.

Don't get me wrong I'm enjoying racing with you and have used ghosts and bots in my re runs, when I knew I'd had a off day and could do better, but it's difficult to account for the bonus the drafting effect gives, that may be wiped out with a BKool 'recalibration' of the algorithm.

As a splitter can i make a suggestion?

Those who cannot do the thursday or can only ride solo just use those ghosts of other GB riders who are looking to take part in the league. At least then the solo rider gets a chance to draft fellow competitors rather than lots of other ghost so balancing things out?

I was going to post pretty much the same. I think so long as the ghosts selected are from the original live run then ghosts are fine. The re-run (or initial run in my case) will be 'as live' and any drafting I manage, or more likely being dropped and doing a solo TT, would be the same as if I'd run the race live.

We say no to the dumb bot ghosts though as these (especially the lapdogs) can make a big difference if not because of drafting then just psychologically.

It's all kind of irrelevant for me as I know I've no chance of making the team anyway but I do think that is the fairest and consistent with what we have always done. The cream will rise to the top either way, and when it comes to the hilly climb I know the heavier riders like me will have absolutely no chance and no amount of ghosts will help.
