The Nations Cup is a rolling maths lesson.
We need a DS who can watch where we all are as it is sometimes better to drop back to stop a teammate losing 2 places rather than just gaining one or none yourself. Plus as a group you can work over opponents to get them out of your group and hence assure your team a better points total.
@bridgy do we know what the scoring system will be?

Last year there were 3 teams of 5 riders so 15 riders in total. 1st placed rider scored 15 points, second 14 etc down to 1 point for the last rider.

With more teams and hence riders this year I guess they may change the scoring system slightly and hence team tactics may become more important. Definitely getting Discource up and running for the team will be good .... and as AAAC says, having 'fans' advise from the sidelines who is struggling and needs help (or who on the opposition might need dropping) might be good too if possible although last year we could only watch via a video link and not in game so this may be hard to do.

Could this be any more fun?

Well last year we had the mighty @gbrown as our DS and he had a special pass to view the live race and was connected to our discourse channel to give advice during races and make sure we were all where we should be at the allotted times. He also recorded the races and put the videos on YouTube.

He did a cracking job and I did PM him a couple of days ago to ask if he fancied doing it again but I haven't heard back - he hasn't been on here in quite a while.

If Geoff's not available to do the job or doesn't want to we will need someone to fill his shoes....

What was your time so I can enter it in the results

My own time (Simon in BKool) was 00:44:24. I won't be threatening any of the top placeholders. (Not even if I can gain a few Watts by replacing my creaky bottom bracket - the bike I have dedicated to the turbo was sitting outside Waterloo station in the rain for 3 years...)

Is it normal to be able to sustain much higher powers on the big climbs than on the flat btw? I had 2.3 Watt/kg on Stouby-Sejet, but managed 3.6 on Alpe d'Huez the other day. I wonder if it is a calibration issue with my trainer (one of the very early BKool Classics).

The re run of the Thursday race is 5 PM UK time on Saturday. Usually started by Bill but worth checking on here first just to be sure.

My subscriptions run out in BKOOL. In fact it ran out on the 24th last month. BKOOL have offered me 50% off for the year if I re sign. So just a heads up to anyone who’s sub is about to run out but intends to re subscribe. Make sure that auto renew if off in the options. It’ll be worth going offline for a bit if it only takes a week or so before they offer a stonking discount.

I’m going to sign up a month at a time to do this months chaingang / qualifiers. Looks like the competition is fierce, and I’ve done very little racing if late so it’ll probably be a long shot, but it should be a good laugh all the same.

Is this anyone here?

I remember my first race, a few years ago in the chaingang. I was gobsmacked at the pace of Bill, LBH, Bob, AAAC and others starting off the line. I would be left for dead. I thought they were all ex Pros given the wattage and pace. Eventually I began to get the hang of fast starting and hanging with the leaders- only ever got the better of them once. Mostly below podium for placing. I've moved onto 'that which shall not be named' platform. The racing is just as fierce, but instead of 4 or 5 riders there is 50 or more trying to get the better of you. Good luck and keep trying:okay:

Too kind Bob.:girldance: Road to Ruins suits me, except the steep first climb. I find if I go deep into red and stay with the pack over the first climb I can recover a bit, The rest of the course isn't as steep, by then the watts have dropped from the lighter riders and my weight is then an asset
