Possibly France when we retire (assuming Brexit doesn't bugger that plan!!!). Spain may be a little too hot for my wife's health.

The continent will generally be hotter during summer than the UK, unless you stay on the northern edge of France.

Mrs McWhortface could do a lot worse than talk you into retiring up here. She knows the terrain - the east is cool but very nice.. the west soggy but super nice. Less language barriers than that of France. Unless you're in Glasgow.
She's a Kilmarnock lass, so she understands the Glasgow accent. Even so, she's not keen on the cold weather and def doesn't want to move back to Scotland. Loire Valley area of France is our current preferred destination but we're about 10 years away from this so anything could happen in the meantime

Living in and close to cosmopolitan Yeovil we get to understand most any accent but Glaswegian is not too common here but we do have quite a few eejits and bampots.
