LIVING THE DREAM
Knowing what you military lads are like I'd say it could be a lot worse!

One of my closest and oldest friends did a stint in the marines. And going out drinking with those guys in my early twenties was an eye opener to say the least.

It's all about en-suite cheap food and accommodation = lots of beer tokens

I lived next to and worked with a Falklands vet. He was an animal, no sorry he was a character, the beer just added a twist. He loved a drink or 8. Trouble was after 2 or 3 he became something else. Not violent, just twisted. I'd go out with him just for the entertainment value of seeing what he did next .

There is a whole stack of wildlife on the Falklands so plenty of work for vets.
Not much else to do in the evenings so drinking is a favoured hobby.
The fact that his character changes after a few is nothing to do with his job.

Assessment of my club run. I need to lose weight and lots of it!, I don't think I can improve 10-15% in power so weight loss has to be the easier option.

It was fairly flat run today, but quite to very pacey. The bumps were hell trying to hold position in the pack, the first 40 miles on the upper end of comfortable. The the return leg one of the riders was getting live strava points, the pace would ramp up to beat the KOM or at least get near. This happened several times on 0.5 to 3 miles stretches. This is were I was working bloody hard, on the ragged edge. We were no longer a pack but a long line of small groups in chaingang formation. At the end of this flat section was Navenby hill. Pop I went, whilst the front guys piled on the misery and flew up the hill. We reformed again at the junction, the pace was on it again all the way back to Sleaford. I turned off thinking I could have a slow return to home, but Stuart, club vice captain came with me. He is like a rake, has huge endurance and is 68!. Not to lose face, I kept with his pace which was becoming more and more unbearable. Eventually I admitted defeat 2 miles from home.

I am totally knackered today with aching glutes and hamstrings, far more than DD.

New plan is required to make these outings easier. weight loss and power training.

Yep, no Sunday roasts after club rides, only fish and no chips  On the rest days I'm going to have a go at limited calories intake, normal(slightly reduced) on workout days.

I have the same problem/challenge Andy. Lose weight or gain significant extra power...... I MUST lose 2 stone else I'll never be able to move forward with the cycling!

TBF, I did lose over 2 stone a few years ago (I was knocking in the door of 16 stone back in 2010). It wasn't exercise but food/calorie control that did it. I was losing 2 lb per week just by eating properly and monitoring portion sizes. Was hard work (hence why I have put back on 10 lb) but it is the only way.

My next target is 1 stone less when I get to the Isle of Wight. This would be a sub 13 stone weight.

My target is to get down to a 40inch waist again. It has been a decade or more since I was last there. I've gone down 2 sizes in the last 18 months, I will not tell you how far I have to go . But I'm hoping to get near by the end of the year . The biggest problem I have is the lump that I have behind my belly button is occupying the place where my lungs want to expand into .

I might be up for that tomorrow night. I might also be on there tonight! May have a go at stage 2 tonight as I don't think I'll be around on Thursday.
