I bet you can't resist bingly bonging my ghost... betya betya..
Must confess, I have set both you and @rob01792 up as ghosts. Not sure yet if I'm going to take it easy and see how I feel, or go off hard and stop if the chest is not up to it. Actually, what am I saying, we know it will be the latter!!!! Hoping I don't set my recovery back but I need to get on the bike to know how I'm really feeling ^_^

Always assumed it was Danish as it sits mainly North of Flensburg.
Famous for it's nudist beaches I understand, never be there myself not even when I was going out with a lass in Schleswig (not).
Interesting to see its quite near a Danish town with a name that looks like 'Tinder'.

Sylt is German and has been so since we lost the war against them and Austria back in 1864. Back then we lost all of Schleswig too, but the people in the northern part of Schleswig chose to be part of Denmark again in 1920. This part is now known as Sonderjylland.

Never been to Sylt myself either, but I'm told it's very expensive with a lot of rich Germans (and expensive houses to match). Maybe they're not that rich though, since the don't have money for clothes to wear at the beach?? ;-)

Tønder actually translates to "barrels" in English. My current hometown Skive probably comes from "skibe", which is "ships" in English, and being situated next to the Limfjord, that would explain it. But I don't really know for sure. :-)

Welcome back - looked like a good trip to Belgium you had, based on Strava. I was in south Holland over last weekend and it was REALLY hot - mid thirties on Saturday - so I hope it had cooled down at least a bit for you?

I only just noticed you put in another big ride well done Bridgy 110 miles! Must of been tough going, ecspecially in that heat...

It was surprisingly tough considering the only uphill bits were going over bridges or dykes! Flat does mean absolutely no rest from pedalling, and in our case, a strong headwind for the last 30 miles! I started the ride a bit dehydrated from the night before (I may have had one or two beers ) which was a very bad move considering the weather - I literally couldn't drink enough to stay hydrated in the heat. So yeah it was tougher than expected at the end but still a great day's cycling. Of the 110 miles I reckon less than 10 was on roads shared with cars, as most roads had wide, two lane cycle roads alongside them - very envious of their cycling infrastructure!

That was a good ride tonight  The asthma meds are definitely working!! Just need @BILL S to release the ride and I'll be doing well in the league :okay: Sorry about the emails @rob01792 and @Jim Brown

Only conundrum was whether I should slow down to make the ride over 30 mins to get a better FTP, or take the fast time. I went for glory and took the time. Hopefully I'll have other rides where I can smash my current FTP :boxing:

Cycling into the wind is so much harder than uphil! for one I find it much more difficult to judge your effort. And then I always push too hard...

There's loads of interesting stuff on European countries adapting to bike awareness. I'd always thought that Holland had bike friendly policies in their DNA. But 40 odd years ago they had much higher accident rates than the uk does today. Now all we've got to do is take their lead...

I went to some training in southeastern Netherlands and the first day there had no clue about the cycling paths. One of another non European students walked across it and got nailed by a heavy Dutch bike that sent him flying.

That happens lots in London too Randy and often it's the native London pedestrians who step out into the cycle paths! Hopefully with time we'll all learn to live together. Then we can all join together in unison and exterminate the taxi drivers! In the nicest possible way of course :gun:

Always ride over dykes from the side to side, never end to end as you might get your wheel stuck!

Cycle paths are just a verge between roads and paths and seem to be fair game to to users of either.
Integrating decent cycle paths into an already dense habitat is almost impossible.
The other difficult thing is teaching old dogs new tricks.
For years in Europe cycle paths have had priority over turning traffic which enables cyclist an almost stop free journey.
If you tried that in the UK it would be like pub all day opening, utter chaos and people laying half dead all over the place all day long.

My legs had had a good rest so felt strong. And the asthma meds are doing their thing so I had a storming ride. I was puffing a bit after 10 mins and didn't know if I was able to hold on, but once I got over that I was good to the end. Need to try a similar run for a 60 minute ride - that would be a massive improvement!

My tyre pressure was at 95 psi too, thanks to @CXRAndy , rather than the flat 45 psi that it was on when I got to the DD .... that probably helped too  Reminds me, I must get myself a good track pump
