I've got one Tommy, Stages. Was working whilst I rode upto start then stopped. I think battery died arrgh!

So rode with heart rate and cadence. Average HR 175 peaking at 181 so felt like I had given it a good go

This is what my work mate said:

I have since bought another one and here is my advice:

1. Only use the best quality batteries.

2. Be very careful how you insert the battery – it is very easy to short one electrode to the other – damp, dirty hands etc – plastic gloves may help.

Sounds extreme but it works for me.

That said I reckon I still only get about 20/25hrs actual riding use from one battery.

I knew if you controlled your start you'd get a better time. It's that fine line between going fast enough to take advantage of the bkool power surge and not too fast that you can't recover. :okay:

Don't tell him that or I will miss those WTF moments at the start of a live race when I have to chase him down.

I started of slower than I normally would and it seamed to work I was surprised how quickly I past my ghost for the rest of the ride I tried to stay in front of u by about 10 seconds as I knew if I tried to draft u and u pulled away I would have a struggle to pull u back in as I remember from Thursday the gap seamed to stay around 1.30 mark

I would expect young Whorty's draft being reasonably large based on his own reporting.

My 'bugger, I may have started too fast and will pay for this later' moment is any race where I find myself ahead of one of you speedsters off the start line. I'm happy if I get a boosted start but you guys are still ahead of me

The battery probably is quite old now. I keep forgetting it is there, I use the bike on the turbo so use the kickr power meter. I'll remove battery for training and put it back for events

My mate at work bought a Stages and he had trouble with battery drain.
I think is was because he had an older Garmin and the Stages was not going to sleep when not in use hence draining the battery.
I'll ask him but I know he ended up sending it back as he felt his days of doing any better are gone so he was going to stick to old fashioned methods i.e. HR and feel.

Do you remember how big we were on HR in our College days Dave?

I think we used to stick our fingers on our wrist and count for 30 seconds then double it.

Trouble is we were mechanics and not mathematicians so we gave up on that because it hurt our brains!
Oh yes, it was all about HR etc then! I think for 'The Boss' it was all about the miles and nothing else. I remember he tried to get us to enter a 12 hour as a junior. We didn't partake, but he did. I enjoyed watching him suffer and handing him his food and drink.
Actually talking of HRMs I have a Garmin 235 watch with HRM will that pair ok do you know? I put together an old 80s Roberts Columbus Road bike to try out on the BKool arrives.

Knocked almost a minute off my previous time. Couldn't break away far from your ghost though, it tracked me the whole way. Very interesting to see the battle between you, my old ghost and the two Jamies (Jamie must have challenge us twice and so there was 2 of his ghosts). All very close. I was 20 secs up the road but in hindsight I should have drafted those ghosts, saved some energy, and then sprinted for the finish. I'd maybe feel less shattered now :headshake:

if u look at the stats for that we both 3wkg avg= 252.8 me 252.4 u and u finished 10 sec ahead very evenly match that would have been a cracking live race

I have been finding out over the last week that tooth extraction and heavy exercise are not happy bedfellows :headshake:. I have been in pain since I had a pair of teeth out last week. The low grade, gnawing, throbbing, won't go away completely, even when attacked with strong pain killers, type pain  :boxing: .

The problem is when I try to do some bike work the pain gets worse for me and then I'm really in the poo. It becomes a medium/high grade, gnawing, faster throbbing, won't go away completely, even when attacked with heavy, neurofen plus, pain killers, type pain :banghead::cursing::banghead:. I've spoken to the Dentist and they are saying it is probably bruising coming out. It took 35 minutes to get one of my teeth out. I am getting bored silly now.

Another couple of days and I'll be banging on the dentist door for proper pain relief help. :ninja:

Add Jamie, Randy, Marino and Bugno too (plus TB and GW if we can convince them back to the leagues) and that is a good evenly matched group
