Don't underestimate climbs, on a windy day a flat road can be quite steep.
On a still day subtle climbs can feel like mountains simply because you perceive it is flat.

I know, I've put on my climbing cassette. I know as the ride gets into the latter stages, fatigue will be an issue. I can keep going albeit slowly on the steepest climbs.

My practiced technique of grinding up those hills is going to come into play!

Truth was Bill I wanted to entice you to race him and sit behind you both to see how you fared with him on the flats and hills.
I seem to get power over swings, not quite a pro sling but more the resistance takes a while to kit which allows me to maintain my pace too far into the ascent before I slow, hence some of the big watts.
So I thought I could sit behind you both and monitor progress.
When I finally realised that you weren't coming back towards the end I thought that I can't let us, Cyclechat, get beat by a Spaniard in our own league so I just put my head down.
I ended up coasting over the line spent though.

I have certainly done quicker rides with you (and I expect Bridgy to take a couple of minutes of my time) but like I said earlier in the week you are always up there on the flats but even if I force my watts to stay flat going onto a climb you still slip back and I end up backing off to a power well below that we were doing on the flat.
You used to be the man for the hills. I would have a go at removing BSim from our PC and doing a complete re-install and checking your turbo for loose magnets, magnet carriers and or conductive ring.

Well it never usually takes much to entice me when there's a race to be had, but the heat was very bad for motivation and I even thought that my poor old ticker might be at risk if I pushed any harder. TBH I've been slacking lately and probably lost some fitness since I hurt my back in the garden, so probably going to get slower before I get quicker (that'll be music to Steve's ears ). I was aware that you were out to make an otherwise boring race a little bit more exciting (and that certainly worked) but I guess it would have hotted up anyway when the Spaniard caught me up as he was sure to do at some point. I don't think the positions would be any different had things run their natural course. I hoped you would give up on my quicker than you did as it wouldn't be on to let a non league rider win, but you had that covered anyway.
Took the turbo apart a few weeks back and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Magnets seemed to be doing what they should and seemed to be secure. I'll try a complete re-install of BSIM and see if that helps.

I saw the word 'weakening ' and thought mmmm maybe I didn't give it my best shot so I challenged you Bill and improved and if I challenge another 13 times with the same improvement I will better your time :notworthy: that will teach me to get ideas above my station (sorry for the email Whorty but it will go with the other 4 that you and I both got this morning :hyper:

I like your style Steve. I'm all in favour of trying to take advantage of a fellow competitor, and have never been shy of doing so myself when the opportunity has arisen. You're definitely catching me though, the question is will you be able to overhaul me as my fitness deteriorates, or will I get back into training soon enough to stay ahead? :training:

Bill, I suspect you and the other 'heavyweights' (AAAC, Bridgy, DP) will always be my 'carrot' (if you know what i mean) and with trying to stay ahead of Whorty, Jim et al. it will make me a fitter cyclist - i'm very grateful for that, in fact i'm grateful to all the CycleChat members, it's certainly added a fun factor with the 'friendly':boxing: rivalry and the banter, most enjoyable - just watch your backs;)

Hi guys
Probably a stupid question!
I want to do a gentle slow ride later on the turbo as it's going to rain later in the real world and do a bigger ride tomorrow.
The last time I did this I had a message from bkool stating my fitness level has gone down and I've been downgraded to amateur 1.
So the question is
"how can I do a slow ride without having it adjusted to your crap"

It shouldn't keep demoting you level. Have you done a 20 min ftp test? These hold you level for several months.
I have but not for a long time.
Perhaps I need to update it.
I'll give that a go at some point.
It also did it on my last ride but got promoted instead,so it constantly adjusts.
