You were very dynamic today AAAC. I am definitely weakening but today I think it was mainly the heat. When you went back to help the Spanish guy I didn't think you'd drag him forward so quickly. Then later after you'd tried to drag me forward nearer the end (but I couldn't stay with you), I was surprised how quickly you gained the 20 seconds back on the Spanish guy and then got a good lead on him before the end. No sign of you weakening, that's for sure.

He was pushing 700 watts as he caught and flew past the Spanish guy

I see what u mean very difficult couldn't get near you
cheers whorty and jim for encouragement
Just can't get into a rhythm can you? Constant up and downs by a few % breaks up the smoothness - not my kind of ride as I always seem to be in the wrong gear  I thought you'd hold on to me early on and use me to draft.

Truth was Bill I wanted to entice you to race him and sit behind you both to see how you fared with him on the flats and hills.
I seem to get power over swings, not quite a pro sling but more the resistance takes a while to kit which allows me to maintain my pace too far into the ascent before I slow, hence some of the big watts.
So I thought I could sit behind you both and monitor progress.
When I finally realised that you weren't coming back towards the end I thought that I can't let us, Cyclechat, get beat by a Spaniard in our own league so I just put my head down.
I ended up coasting over the line spent though.

I have certainly done quicker rides with you (and I expect Bridgy to take a couple of minutes of my time) but like I said earlier in the week you are always up there on the flats but even if I force my watts to stay flat going onto a climb you still slip back and I end up backing off to a power well below that we were doing on the flat.
You used to be the man for the hills. I would have a go at removing BSim from our PC and doing a complete re-install and checking your turbo for loose magnets, magnet carriers and or conductive ring.

I started too fast i need to learn not to shoot off at the start but i kind of enjoy it but it takes a little while to recover

It is hard to resist the super power you can get from the line.
On Saturday I put my head down and manged well over 1000 Bkool watts indicated before the resistance ramped up.
If you hit the gas on the 3rd bleep you can get a jump on most people as well.

I peaked at 900 watts and died as I crested the last climb.
My HR went from 130 to 160 in 800 m before I blew up.

I saw the word 'weakening ' and thought mmmm maybe I didn't give it my best shot so I challenged you Bill and improved and if I challenge another 13 times with the same improvement I will better your time :notworthy: that will teach me to get ideas above my station (sorry for the email Whorty but it will go with the other 4 that you and I both got this morning :hyper:

Yes, I was saying the same to my wife as I was watching the race. I have visions of you at the DD blasting away from the carpark  if I go off too hard I can't recover enough - i try to get a fast but controlled start.

Really? Ouch! Slow and steady pace and no going into the red too early is needed.

Carl its not as bad as it sounds, the first 10K is climbing, but not huge percentage, just 10% bumps most of it is 3-4%. See below the stats of the first 10km

Distance 10.980 km Total Ascent/Descent 351 m / 85 m
Lowest Point 124 m (at 1.08 km) Highest Point 417 m (at 10.44 km)
Uphill 7.74 km (70.5%) Downhill 2.34 km (21.3%)
Flat 0.90 km (8.2%) Max. Height Gain 293 m
Steepest Uphill +10.6% (at 4.14 km) Steepest Downhill -10.6% (at 9.18 km)
Longest Uphill 5.04 km (at 3.78 km) Longest Downhill 1.08 km (at 0.00 km)

Don't underestimate climbs, on a windy day a flat road can be quite steep.
On a still day subtle climbs can feel like mountains simply because you perceive it is flat.
