no I actually feel fine had a nice warm down with @Jim Brown after trying to keep my cadence over 95
once that Spanish rider passed there was no chance of me catching him i was already maxed
I'm still a bit off from end last summer where i was about 270 watt avg
still need to get more in as DD is 5 weeks sunday
Yeah, and it's scaring me sh1tless just thinking about it!!

Went to Halfords today and bike is booked in next Monday to have the rear cassette changed to a 11-32 (I'm assuming this is ok and I don't need a 34?). Will be buying a soft padding for the seat as I'm fearing 8 hours in the saddle will hurt). Need to change the front tyre to a puncture resistance one. Possibly adding a rack too so I can use my rack bag to hold stuff. Need a waterproof top too, in case the Welsh weather does what it does best :rain:

Need more of this over the next 5 weeks :bicycle: And less of this :hungry:

I used to love catching newts as a kid. Never difficult to find, just go find a pond and there would be newts in it.
Now its hard even finding one of those ponds as they have filled them all in and built on them,
Yes, my youth in the Black Country, on the canals, was the same. Frogs, toads and newts everywhere. This survey is due to a factory site near where we live being knocked down and re-developed into housing. There was a pond on site and as part of the planning they had ecology survey and found newts, so they then surveyed all other ponds in the area. Before we moved in, as part of the first survey 4 years ago, they found 36 newts in our lake, which they estimate could be up to 3-400 newt population. So very healthy in this area. As part of the housing planning they have had to dig two more ponds to help the newts LOL

Just been out with the lads and found 2 females crested newts and 2 common newts ... we didn't know we had any! 40 pop bottles and canes are laid and they're coming back in the morning to check them. HID and I are wildlife fanatics so for us this is very exciting

The common ones must have escaped from Yobsvile

No? Damn! Not convinced I can do 8 hours on my current saddle so was hoping a bit of padding might help. Back to the drawing board maybe

Carl, riding on the road is a little easier than turbo, it's more dynamic and you move around a little. Have you been out for multi hour rides yet? Don't forget a lot of chamois cream helps. I run a good amount into my padding on the bibs before long rides.

Plummeted to 4th in the CG GC on account of my ride today being in the 'Land of the Grey and not Pink'

G did a good job yesterday in the Tour Of the Alps and its LBL this Sunday!

Whorty, I would echo what AAAC and Andy have said. Saddle preference will be unique to the individual and depend on posture, bike fit and other variables but it's rare for someone to say a squishier saddle is the answer to a sore butt! I use a fizik Arione copy from Giant but Planet X do one too. It's firm but flexible and comfortable for all day rides providing I don't use some old dhb summer bibs- the padding in the bibs is too thin! So, to introduce another variable- what bibs do you have? There is a good article on reasonably priced bibs in cycling weakly this week.

I felt sorry for the rider who clawed his way to the front 2 only for them to be swallowed up with 1km to go. Awesome effort.

The other thing to think about is tyre width and pressure. Don't forget you are probably running 100psi plus on the turbo. You may run 80-90 on the road especially with a 25 or 28mm tyre like a Grand Prix 4 seasons or similar. A lower pressure and greater tyre width make a huge difference to comfort with little to no impact on pace. would suggest tubeless but that depends on rims and tyres.

I think i have 23 tyres and pressure is only about 85 (the pump I have can't seem to pump pressure any higher!). I was going to change the tyres for the DD to 25 (or 28?) for a less hard ride.So much to think about ... so little time or knowledge LOL

Thanks for all the help guys :okay:

No, not been out on the road yet. Getting the extras sorted on the bike next week and will start road riding after that. I'm hoping 3-4 weeks of roads will build on what I've done on the turbo and set up up OK for the DD.
