Down to a few keystrokes now then.
Technology taking over the tech...
Not much talking over the airwaves these days. Or can you add more power to get verbally active.

You relaxing and taking it easy now?
Easier control if they're not together. Did Toodles bring you anything from her trip out.

Five years, where did that time go...
All that packing and unpacking done. You did finish the unpacking...
Have one for each year you've been there. Or a bikkie for each year.

Voice is still used..
they complained that voice would be the end of radio,
they said the same about computer created data..
a hobby full of folk stuck in their opinionated ways....
I'm for innovation......
Folk who moan the most were what they called the big guns with large antenna setups and running mucho power, can't see the little people getting anything..one station wrote a diatribe against the newer data and yep, guess where he is now.
If you can't beat them, may as well join them, the blog post has been purged from the net.

We don't have a storage cupboard, just a garage and still discovering stuff..

Been experimenting with vases, small and mid sized to start...

Morning from a dreich, breezy Towers :hello:
Yellow warning of BIG winds tomorrow...
Debating heading out or not...
Rainy, rainy, rattle staney:sad:
Owdo
You had beans on toast?
Warned of sub-zero temperatures(-5c and lower) last night, never arrived. Maybe your Big Winds will be the same.
Get out there...
No snow!

Voice has been part of radio almost since it started.
It'd put me off if it were all as you described earlier. Especially doing it the automated way, especially controlling the output from elsewhere.
What would be classed as a big setup, and mucho power these days?
The ones I remember were set up, and run, from the bedrooms. Aerial on the chimney, not always vertical, or house wall.
They moaned when CB radio became popular, especially about the not paying part.
Anyone ever remind him of what he said.

No storage cupboard! Where will Toodles and partners hide...
No garage here.

That's on the 3D printer not as storage containers.

£10 was the CB licence? at one point...
Radios were only £20 out of Comet, Amstrad 901 with the 'disco lights' signal strength indicator..
DV27 stuck on to a biscuit tin
Those were the days....
Convoys etc.. man it was fun.
Started me going into the hilltops with a Silver Rod and a Realistic 4w handheld and two sets of rechargeable batteries before splashing out on a 12v 6ah acid sealed battery with a cigarette plug adaptor. later developments were 11m loop then the piece de resistance, a two element 11 m Quad, I did build a 3 element one but not really portable unless you had a tractor. The two was 2x2 wood and bamboo canes for spreaders..

I've a photo of the 2 ele quad on my blog but cannot find it....oops

Vases? just resized versions.
60% and an 80% one..
Mrs M likes them so would have to coat them inside with something to waterproof them, ideal for small dry flower arrangements..
Giving the printer a day off

How many paid for the licence though.
Ere, £20 were a fair bit back then. Showing yer age there, Comet. TI should still have a set somewhere, rotating dial for signal strength.
Used a Quality Street tin. Nowt compared to the aerials on the two houses to the rear of us though.
We thought they'd never end...
Closest I came to a home setup for radio though, ham or otherwise.
Weren't Realistic a Tandy brand?
You've misplaced the picture...

Keeping The Boss happy.
Nowt fancy then, if tha's to waterproof the inside for dry flower arranging.
Think it deserves a day off.

Tandy? aye..
Their mobile CBs were Uniden chassis, Amstrad were Cybernet along with Rotel and others.
Uniden chassis were the better of the two, better at strong signal rejection, better filtering etc.
In the sideband world, the Ham set of radio, Jumbo, Multimode and ??? were cybernet, the so called top sidebanders, the Cobra, the Presidents were mostly all uniden but not all were.
The same boards were sold under various names with different cases, badge engineering at its finest...
Too many folk were too handy with jewellers screwdrivers....
Tandy scanners were the bees knees though....
Always had plenty of % off events , miss Tandy..

My blog is pretty big TBH..
must do an end of the year post....
more to keep it going....
My antenna here today is in the attic...
9:1 UNUN with 7.4m of wire...
I was going to use it as a Rybakov (Russki for Fisherman or something related to fishing) I have photos of that on the blog...

The same antenna on a 9m fibreglass fishing pole, on a rare outdoor test..
Got to tune it in on most bands, can work from 80-6m (less efficient on say 80 and 60m bands), does 40, 30, 20, 17, 15,12, 10, 6......

It works......you can tell what I get up to in my spare time.....318 for 9,000? (plus 20 for today)
I'm off to log them up....

They were the only real competition to a well established family run company, near me. And they closed up first, leaving the other shop still running.
Other than that it was RS, via mail order, for electronic parts. Then Maplin, now also gone on the high street.

Anything interesting or odd that happened in the last month of the year as a way of finishing the year.
How high is your roof, or is that poking out through it.
Your spare time! Didn't think you had any.
Hope you rested that writing hand.

Nah, it runs along the roof supports...
There's a few bob in copper wire up there.
There's a loop, a turnstile antenna, an active plastic tube type thing, a 2m colinear and a 1296mhz antenna..and ?? I haven't been up for quite a while, I'll have a look next week at some point.
Monthly contest thing I do?
finished 11th out of 25 for '24
Haven't looked at results of the other but I gave that up mid year and had one contact on the night in early Dec...

Tandy held a good stock of components and they could get them normally within 48 hours if warehouse had stock.
I think they would have died a death earlier if not for their computers.....
Bloke said they sold very few components.
Maplin was a just your luck if it was in stock...
components now are just head to the yellow river area.. their delivery times have got to 5 to 8 days mostly, not the 14 -28 it was..

Winter Solstice was at 9.21 am ..
The nights are now drawing out:cheers:

Just find your local druid stone, flowers in yer hair and a white smock with sandals and yer made..

Lunch before the cyclocross or after?

Horizontally, doesn't vertical height help?
Just hope no-one throws them out by mistake. Weigh-in first option.
"Tube type thingy", keeping up with all this tech talk is getting harder these days.
You put them up there and don't know how many. Did you not count them as they went up.
Something else done in your spare time...
In the top half isn't that bad.

Think it were the radio's that kept them in business down here. From one's where you put a battery in it to just listen, right up to transmitting your own signal. And we didn't have an Argos in town either.
I want to see what it is I'm parting with cash for, which is why the big river place isn't used.

True, think we've an extra three seconds of daylight tonight on top of the one second we had yesterday.
There's one about 300 yards from the house. The white smock and sandals may be harder come by.

Whilst yer watching...
Unless yer taking part of course.

You get less interference on the so called flat side.
Height does matter..
I love my tech jargon...thingy covers so much.
I have lots of coax cables coming through the roof in this here room, all neat and tidy for once...
as for the rest of the place..chaos.

I meant the big yellow river place for some stuff...
