Last time round, it went an odd colour outside, but still a load of daylight left. Went dark and nothing visible to the naked eye.
Just catch them as they appear?

Must have been unlucky due to light pollution in not seeing anything.
The overhead bit I can understand, but viewing the northern lights to your south sounds odd.

They just randomly appear and not where you expect them..
They should be in the N but anything showing that direction was weak , as said above, S was strongest...
You could see it without camera but it gathers light in better than yer peepers, most of the shots you see are long exposure esp by the pros.
I've never seen the whole sky light up..
I took photos that night of all angles (one after the other)..

My only expectation for sighting was "up there". With very little chance to the south, due to light pollution.
Maybe the air going an odd colour, whilst still light got my hopes up.
Some of the ones that appeared on here were brilliant.

Just returned from a wee tour....
Car, of course.
Into Ayrshire then a stop in my old town of Largs to pick up lunch and head out to an old fishing spot to enjoy.
Nice breezy sunny day,
sea was showing a good swell.
Good memories

Seeing all the sites?
Chauffeured around, things are getting back to normal...
Thought you were a Port Glasgow man!
Decent lunch at yer fishing spot, with excellent service.
Catch owt you could take home.
Onshore or offshore breeze, with shelter.
You brought sand home for your garden.
Bring back yer DJ days?

I'm really a Greenockian born and bred....
I went to Largs for the day in July 71 and came home six years later
Six years to live again? oh, aye.....

Fishing is not the same as then, place has gone to the dogs....Cod catches in the 60s and 70s were phenomenal.
I lived on cod (and the odd haddie),
I was regaling Mrs M with all the ways of cooking cod...
think I'd avoid most of them nowadays.
could I afford cod nowadays:laugh:
used to see a local restaurant and ask if they wanted anything, apparently conger flesh was a perfect substitute for a popular batter covered fish dish.
I'd a landlady who did cod in cheese and onion, or tomato and ham strips, it was layered but I only wish I knew what else was used to make it...
done in the oven......delicious.
Both places gone, one converted to flats.
apart from shop fronts, the main street hasn't changed much.
Think a stroll along the prom would be a bit too much, we shall return.
Wind was onshore..

A slight case of rambling fever...
Sidetracked by what were on offer.
You might get a chance. You do the lottery don't you.

East Coast ports suffered much the same fate.
Once a cheap meal, now priced out off the range of nearly everyone now. Bar the odd occasional treat.
You anything like "Bubba" from Forrest Gump and his shrimp usage.
Maybe stick them all in a book. Might sell.
You should have pinched her recipe when you had the chance.
Done in a dish by chance, sounds familiar.
When you realise what we've lost, it makes you wonder how much longer the remainder will last.
You should have tried, might have found seating somewhere that forced a rest for the view.
Did it bring back memories of nights on the front.

I always treated it with suspicion,
thick batter, over breadcrumbed, where's the meat?
We did eat well in season, shellfish straight from the boat..

I spent many a winters night sitting on the prom..
Busy boy today (maybe)
thoughts of grass cutting..
it's got to almost ankle deep..
brekkie frst

One of those recipes...
Still you'll have eaten enough of it in yer time.
In season, how'd they manage nowadays trying to do that. Scottish Sushi eaten at the dockside.

Cheapest place in town?
If the weather holds...
Hold that thought.
Porridge!!

Slight breeze here. Possible to walk faster than it though.
Autumn when all the leaves start falling, leaving you the job of picking them all up.
1mm of precipitation but got drenched in some hefty showers (or the car did) at lunchtime.

Ferry terminal so portakabins,
knowing the lads (and lasses) we got access to the kitchen part.
Our shellfish 'boilings' were well attended...
Queenie clams and if were lucky, dublin bay prawns....
Trawlers came in late afternoon and any produce landed was lorried away to Ayr or Glasgow.
Plenty chippies nearby.
I did eat some fish i never thought I would...

In other news, Beag won the sunflower challenge

Been threatening to throw it down all day here. Never quite managed, and its still hanging in the air. Maybe during the night...
You were safe in yer chauffeur driven car.

Those things, portacabins, have been around for a while now. Temporary, short term use.
Were these boilings done whilst you were on the building or council?
East coast ports tended to be early hours. Bradford and here had their fresh fish the same morning they were put ashore. Not any more, the fish hall in Bradford is long gone, fish market here two shops left.
We're down to one, where once we had three.

Who did the judging!!

Stayed at 1 mm....

More permanent buildings now, but I can't remember when they started roll on roll off ferries to Tattie Pier (Cumbrae)..1970 early?
I used to get dropped off, obviously waiting to get a pint or two before heading home.
Lorries for fish etc as boats unloaded anything from back of 3 until maybe 5...
wasn't a massive operation.
Being a holiday resort with large daily influxes of visitors then, plenty of chippies, fish obviously bought in from fishmongers.

ME !!!!

The rain threatening here lasted less than a minute. Not too heavy either, so it'll be another close day tomorrow.

No idea either, and it's more your nec'o'woods than mine.
Dropped off, in the morning, and you had a drink and summat to eat before headed home.
Not big back then, even smaller now.
Did they charge the locals less, as some seaside resorts did?

And you couldn't say your own were best.
That were downright unfair, on you!
